Hello everybody. I am currently living abroad with two kids, both mild asperger, both dyspraxic and the eldest dyslexic. Where I am living is about 20 years behind in terms of ASD understanding and support and I am preparing to leave. I am applying to Stanbridge Earls for my eldest but I will also need a school for my 5 year old (ASD, SLD, High IQ). I might consider home-schooling again but to be honest I am burnt out and after having integrated them and developed social skills I want them to be in school. I will also need to work to pay for schooling! So, I am just wondering if anybody could recommend any schools. DS is probably too capable for Hope Lodge. It's quite a huge move for us and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
He might be fine in mainstream here in the UK.
Most kids with ASD and Dyslexia would just go to their local school.

Thank you for your reply. I agree mainstream may be the right fit. I guess I am hoping for a recommendation from a parent. It's been a challenging few years, home-schooling, followed by partial integration after visiting 14 schools and moving to get into the local school we needed, then bullying etc (inc. name calling by a teacher!), and some parents who have complained about an SN child taking resources....I would just like to get a good place for him. He's a great kid but needs support and struggles socially. He's been verbally and physically bullied on the playground and it's had a bad effect on him. I'd go mainstream, special, independent wherever recommended!
The 'SN children' board gets more traffic than this.
If he needs 1:1 support, then you need to apply for a statement.....
I don't know Hampshire. But would expect you should be able to find a normal state mainstream school for him.
Lots of indep schools don't like taking kids with SN. And it doesn't sound like they need to go to a special school......

Go and see Forres Sandle Manor in Fordingbridge!! Excellent reputation for children with Dyslexia, and the SENCO is lovely. My three children go there and while they haven't got any specific learning difficulties I know some of the children who have. What I like about it is that they support them where they need it but stretch them in the areas that they are good at - the dyslexia doesn't become a barrier. Have a look..?
