Have been waiting 7 weeks. Asked for review for mobility. Worrying like mad and also going through motions for tribunal x

starfish71 Mon 01-Oct-12 11:23:46

Had decision for DS1 on phone Friday, he has been awarded! Still waiting for letter and apparently payment will be in bank tomorrow, took 8 weeks, am still stunned.

Am still waiting on DS2 renewal decision, 6 weeks so far. May give them a ring actually just to see if they have asked for any further info from school etc.

It is really awful waiting...x

spiritsam Mon 01-Oct-12 11:37:50

Well done and good luck starfish71 x

slightlycrumpled Mon 01-Oct-12 12:01:37

I just had DS' award come through after just a week and a half! I've phoned to check its correct but apparently it is.
Funny how it gets you though, am obviously relieved that it has been renewed with little drama but haven't stopped crying this morning. It symbolises so much more than just the money.

it's a bittersweet pill isn't it?

a complete stranger has recognised all the extra care we give to our DCs

starfish71 Mon 01-Oct-12 13:00:29

Hope you hear soon perceptionreality x

slightlycrumpled Mon 01-Oct-12 13:01:27

Yes very bittersweet.

Perception I hope you are not kept waiting too long. smile

Still waiting here, sent forms off mid August and got the letter to say they had received them on the 21st. Then about the middle of sept got the appointee letter and also that they were waiting on info from the school.

I went in to see the senco last tues and she had filled in the form stating the help he gets with salt and what 1:1 he gets (20 mins a day!!!!) and that he goes to a facility once a week as well but that was it - obviously school is more structured for him and he the teachers aren't there to make sure he toilets properly and it's the playground assistants who have to deal with him freaking out because someone else has the BLUE stilts.

Not that hopeful we'll get it now sad

I did write things like he needed help crossing roads (he's only 6 anyway and any 6 year old needs help) but jack will swing around the traffic light pole into the road or will run off when hearing loud noises and I have to go chasing after him to restrain him from going into the road. She did write that she is aware of out concerns regarding his sense of danger so that might help sad

Will just have to wait and see and if not ask for a reconsideration...

I have also sent in many reports, iep's and even appointment letters and a letter from the sen facility that he goes to requesting our permission to go to them. Just waiting on this terms iep's and they'll be sent too grin

I sent loads this time. He had just had a big paediatrician apt and I had the resulting letter from that.

I also sent copies of all of the professional reports from his statement annual review.

Filling in the forms is torture, I also hate how frequently it seems to come around. This new award is for three years which is much better, although he is still unlikely to grow his missing piece of DNA by then hmm.

I really hope everyone hears soon.

Gottalovecosta Mon 01-Oct-12 22:33:53

I seem to havebern waiting a lot longer than anyone else. :-/ sent off a lot of reports etc, they haven't requested additional information from anyone to my knowledge, and I only spoke to them last week.

I asked for review of his care and mobility, have been waiting 11 weeks tomorrow confused am baffled others who sent way way after mehaveheard back! Worrying about it all the time as well, fingers crossed we get good news ++

siblingrivalry Tue 02-Oct-12 10:40:13

I know how stressful the waiting is -it's really horrible, because it's so vital for our children.

I have always had sleepless nights while waiting for the renewal too- running through all the scenarios in my mind.

I really hope you hear soon. Try to hang onto the fact that your dd is entitled to it, because her needs are in excess to those of her NT peers.
Best of luck x

I have waited 9 weeks to be told DD with ASD and GDD is making the choice to throw a tantrum !

perceptionreality Thu 18-Oct-12 19:23:05

Oh no spiritsam - is it your first application?

I have just realised that MNHQ has withdrawn all my messages because I asked them to about 2 weeks ago after I thought I may have been recognised so apologies that this thread now doesn't make sense.

But anyway - I received a text today which says the DWP have contacted the hospital regarding my dd's claim. The thing is that she doesn't see anyone at the hospital. Unless they mean her paediatrician, who is based at a clinic confused

spiritsam Thu 18-Oct-12 19:46:45

Hi perception
Applied last year got HRC but DD with ASD , GDD and more is so bad now with going anywhere and our car is going slowly that feel have no choice but to try for it .
Have you someone who knows your dd better that could do a report ?
DWP never requested and info from DD's team :/

Gottalovecosta Thu 18-Oct-12 20:12:29

The waiting is frustrating, isn't it?

We've now been waiting 13+ weeks, spoke to them on Monday, they don't require any other evidence, they're just waiting for the decision maker to look at it!!!! I am wondering if our decision maker is on a looooooooong holiday.

If he is, hope he comes back in a good mood and gives us good news :-)

perceptionreality Thu 18-Oct-12 20:59:50

Ah is this mobility spiritsam? I heard this happening to someone else wrt making a conscious decision to do something - how could they know that?? Very annoying. I don't like sending reports unless I have to because they are large documents which always talk about 'relative strengths' (as they should of course) and the DWP will seize on any little thing to justify not giving the award - my GP agreed when I discussed this with her. If they specifically ask for something I will try to send it. But tbh we have moved twice since dd was little and had all the reports done and cannot easily locate them now (she's nearly 11).

If they have sent a form to her consultant paed then this is the best person as she sees dd very regularly due to her very erratic behaviour. But they said the hospital - she doesn't see anyone there! The consultant runs a clinic.

perceptionreality Thu 18-Oct-12 21:04:55

Poor you Gottalove - 13 weeks? That is a long time. My dd's award runs out the day before her 11th birthday which is December 7th. I hope they will have sorted it by then. I am very worried and stressed about it - I even have recurring dreams about looking through the glass door to my porch and seeing a brown letter with DWP on it - can you believe that??

It is horrible. Last time I did the forms I was about to go to SEN tribunal and that was more stressful than the DLA claim so I focussed on it less then I suppose.

spiritsam Thu 18-Oct-12 21:07:03

Good luck and fingers crossed.
Yes it is. I did try hard to explain that dd is hugely delayed and if you ask her if she's a boy or girl she does not understand and will answer yes. Behaviors are getting worse and waiting for the learning disability team to start any day.
Anyway am going to try and fight it out x

perceptionreality Thu 18-Oct-12 21:10:52

Good luck spiritsam and everyone else. My dd currently gets HRC and LRM but I think she should get HRM because she can't talk and runs in front of cars. There is no way on earth she would be able to explain who she was or where she was from if lost. I suppose if I have to appeal I will appeal that bit too.

spiritsam Thu 18-Oct-12 21:14:08

Good luck perception. All these battles make us stronger hey x

perceptionreality Thu 18-Oct-12 21:54:26

They do - you're right. The important thing is not to be afraid to fight when you need to.

Gottalovecosta Fri 19-Oct-12 20:11:39

Thank you - it's a change of circumstances, and although they've not had to ask for any other supporting evidence as I supplied enough, they have to work through them in date order and that dept are really busy.

Doesn't help my nerves though - perception, I can well imagine the brown envelope dream, I've had it myself!

Gottalovecosta Tue 23-Oct-12 19:08:03

We're onto week 14 now, I rang again tonight to be told by a bemused man that he couldn't understand why we'd been waiting so long, they're not waiting for information, there is a lot of evidence etc. He's told me to ring back tomorrow to ask to speak to a decision maker to see why I've been waiting so long. There was a note on the file to say I should hear by 30th October (my birthday) - hope I get good news as a birthday present!

perceptionreality Tue 23-Oct-12 20:38:45

I hope so too! Good luck. I've been waiting 6 weeks - they are waiting on report from paediatrician.

I'm trying not to be negative but it's so stressful isn't it? Tbh I don't even think they looked at our form til last week. And I posted it early September. I suppose it depends who it goes to and if they have a back log.

mancshell Wed 24-Oct-12 13:38:41

i just recently cliamed about 2 weeks ago for dla for my son who is 9, who as asd and adhd, its a very stressful form to go through, but i was just honest how much agony we go through everyday with him, it was a long and stressful proccess, confused

perceptionreality Wed 24-Oct-12 19:39:39

Good luck mancshell.

Gottalovecosta Fri 26-Oct-12 12:39:11

It's 14.3 weeks now here, I spoke to a decision maker who said the child change of circumstances dept is so over run it's going to be at least another month, if not longer. Said I'll be lucky to hear before 20 weeks is out. Really wish I hadn't bothered now, the stress is so great and I'm terrified they'll turn round and refuse us anyway :-(

perceptionreality Sun 18-Nov-12 17:10:16

I am still waiting for dd1's claim decision. They wrote to her consultant and I think have only just received that report.

It's taken a long time this time - I sent the forms back at the end of August. Dd1's current award runs out on 7th December so not long....I really hope it doesn't drag on much longer.

laura4jasmine Sun 18-Nov-12 17:44:00

Me too! I only sent mine off at the beg of Nov so I know I have a long wait ahead. The thing stressing me is that I got a letter to say they rec'd DS2 form but when I rang to ask if they had DD2 (which was sent 1st), they said no record of it, give it another week and phone again, you may have to send new it's not stressfull enough doing it the 1st time! It's a review for mobility for them both and care for DS2 so I'm glad I now know how long it could be.

perceptionreality Sun 18-Nov-12 19:41:11

Oh no, I hope they find them laura. You may not have a very long wait - a few people on here recently had very quick decisions. I think it all depends whose desk it lands on and whether they look at it right away or not.

MandiH69 Sun 18-Nov-12 20:34:27

I'm waiting for decision about Ds's claim. Sent it on 4th and had text to say they had received it on 7th. had a phone call on 14th asking why it arrived a day late and he seemed happy with my explanation (chasing medical stuff etc) and said he was reading it that day. On 16 th I got an appointee letter, so I guess I just wait now and keep everything crossed. Its my first time of applying, so I'm not sure what happens next.

perceptionreality Mon 19-Nov-12 15:59:52

Good luck Mandi. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long.

MandiH69 Wed 21-Nov-12 10:20:48

I haven't had an awards letter, but there's an unexplainable wad of cash in my account...daren't touch it though until I definately know it's DS's dla....seems awfully quick!!

perceptionreality Wed 21-Nov-12 10:26:36

Yes, it must be DLA - well done! smilesmile

I think they probably send the award letters 2nd class so can take up to a week to arrive after the decision.

laura4jasmine Wed 21-Nov-12 22:15:34

Called again to see if they had received DD2 form and still no record, so now I have to wait for new forms and re send them. I hate this process sad

perceptionreality Thu 22-Nov-12 09:30:14

oh no laura, how awful - do you have copies? I now word process it - I lost the photocopies of the last renewal I did. I had a letter about dd1's Christmas bonus yesterday which was posted on the 14th, so the letters take a week to arrive by the look of it.

Ah well the waiting goes on - I had hoped for an earlier decision so that I could appeal earlier if necessary.

laura4jasmine Thu 22-Nov-12 16:49:01

I do have copies but it now means the claim date will be a month later if they do give her the mobility.
Anyway, thanks for the support and hope you hear soon.

perceptionreality Fri 23-Nov-12 14:44:48

I phoned up today and apparently a decision was made yesterday and dd has been awarded HRC and HRM - the previous award was HRC and LRM. But the lady stumbled over what she was telling me and at first said 'Lower rate care, oh no sorry higher rate care' - I just know I won't relax until I have it in writing!! If they have upped the mobility then it will be great as I will be able to apply for a blue badge for dd1. At the moment taking her out is difficult because she runs in roads and it is a shame because she likes going out. If we were able to park very close to town I would be able to get her home more quickly and easily and without crossing roads.
