As a mother of a son with DS I am speechless and disgusted at the same time!!!!

Talk about taking advantage. This man cleans up after people and now has to pay for the privilige of lifting dirty dishes!!!

I understand that he feels very proud of the work that he does but he if was not there then some-one else would have to do the work and the council would need to pay them the minimum wage.

How does this happen in a civilised society? It makes me so angry and fearful of all the things that my son is going to have to face.

It's terrible. It seems that the council is taking advantage of the fact that this chap wants to do the work regardless. Shame on them if this is the case.

I am outraged, incensed and liable to burst forth with bad language! Whay are they not paying him for what he does? I work with young adults with special needs (including Downs) preparing them for work, work harder and smarter than some of the mainstream students the same age and as such would be more valuable to an employer. This story is about a council taking advantage because they think they can get away with it. AArrgghh
