CAMHS have offered two types of testing.

They have offered the ADOS test but cannot access the equipment till July so will mean waiting a little longer.
They have also offered to do a school based assessment followed up by the ADI-R test which they could do next week.

So do i hold out for the ADOS which i feel would highlight DSs more minor traits OR do i go for the school based assessment BUT DS is at the PRU which is not a MS setting and he does not display extreme behaviours in this setting.

Im stuck!!!I need to email CAMHS back by tomorrow with a decision.

as a non-expert, I would say hold out for the ADOS as you reckon that the school based assessment wouldn't give a complete picture.

thanks TC i think thats the route im bending towards TBH, Problem with the school based one is that DS is functioning in the unit mainly due to the one to one attention and small setting, i really dont think they will gain anything from it. Thing is i dont know enough about the ADI-R to be sure it would help diagnose DS!

Yep, totally agree! Picked up all the subtleties with J and absolutely no arguing from anyone with it as it is the most scientific of all the tests.

If the other test goes tits-up (which it could, because it is much more subjective), B will never get a dx.

Hold out but push - July is ridiculous for what is effectively a toy box and some books for the ADOS!

they are saying they are really struggling getting the equipment and availability to do the test will have to be JULY!!!! I suppose it is only about 3 weeks which when you have been waiting 2 years i nothing!

They have also said they will video the test and send to cambridge to get a second opinion too which should be useful!

Yeah, definitely go for the ADOS. Don't be fobbed off with the other thing because they then won't do the ADOS.

Do the ados, they already have enough evidence about how you ds is in an everyday situation, they shouldn't need to observe him again at school.

Thanks guys have emailed the clincal director bloke back at CAMHS and .basically said that after discussing the suggesstions with DH friend (yes i meant you lot!) and family we decided that the school ob and ADI-R would not be suitable as DSs minor autistic traits would be masked at the PRU by the high level of support available to him there and that we were going to hold on till July for the ADOS test!

So i suppose yet again this proves that if oyu push enough you can get what you want! Now im going to panic for the next few weeks that DS in not autistic...how stupid is that!
