What on earth does Neighbourhood Early Years service actually do?

DS has very delayed language/understanding and quite probably ASD. In a year on NEYS books, they have managed to deeply unimpress me:-

1)the senco sent to observe nursery just washed her hands of DS - as he had a private SALT programme, she just said to nursery - oh follow that

2)the lady I asked for advice on schools told me she couldn't give me any help until DS went before pre-school panel, or comment on any m/s schools as they all deal with all SN these days

3)this morning - I was chasing up a joint clinic appointment letter that SALT told me was on it's way. The person I spoke to couldn't help with his file as I am in the wrong area of the city - despite the fact that I moved to his area of the city 3 months ago, and promptly notified NEYs of the fact. Evidently in 3 months noone could be arsed to move a file across the office.......

I am sure I am probably being unreasonable, but DS has been adrift for a year with 2 NHS salt appointments being the sum support he has had.

OH, that sounds so SO frustrating. I am not in the UK so I have no idea about the system there but just wanted to let you know that I read your post and I am just feeling angry at how your DS and many others are being left without the help they need.
They don't seem to understand how important early intervention is.
Hopefully his private SALT programme is going well.

well some progress - I spoke to the lady at NEYs from my old area and have a provisional date and time for his appointment - apparently the SALT department are moving offices so are behind on paperwork, so I shouldn't really bother phoning them to chase a letter till next week as they are so busy .
