Hi there everyone,my ds is nearly four and is in the process on being statmented,he has ASD.Could any of you explain the process for me.Are there things i neeed to keep an eye on and be aware of?I would really appreciate any advice you could offer as i want to make sure he gets all the help and support he should.

How far are you along the statementing process?. Have your LEA actually said that they would agree to assess?. Its a long ol' process as well - it can take a minimum of six months to set up such a document.

When you do get the proposed statement back you need to closely examine both Parts 2 and 3. These are highly important. Be extremely wary of anything that does not offer properly set out provision - you need a set number of hours and properly thought out strategies to help him. Woolly and vaguely worded statements are of no use whatsoever.

IPSEA are very good at all this and can help with the minefield that is statementing - their web address is www.ipsea.org.uk. Although their phone line is always busy they are very good and can help a lot.
