hi ladies i know i should prob have put this in development but you lot are the best
as some of you know i have a 5 year old ds with autism so thats prob why im paranoid but i also have a 7 month old dd who in every other way is fine she smiles laughs holds toys etc
but cant lay on her tummy for long as she cant hold her head up long ( fine looking round when she is sat up on my knee will turn to look round every where)
she also cant sit sit unaided yet and i know i shouldnt have but i googled not sitting up and now found out its a sign of cerabral palsy.
sorry this is long winded but my main question is to all you parents of children with cerabral palsy are there any other signs i should look for as i know all kids develop differntly cant really talk to hv ( she is useless) but i will if i have too
thanks
x

Hi bubble78 x I understand how easy it may be for you to worry about the development of your dd when your ds has autism.... but you really musnt worry!!!! not at this stage anyways. All little darlings vary so much when growing up. I myself do not have a child with cerabral palsy so can't advise you on 'signs you should look for'. But do have a ds who is 9 with autism, who has a twin sister with no problems at all and also a younger sister and brother which too have no problems......BUT ALL DEVELOPED AT COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STAGES!!!. Please do not worry xxxx Easier said than done I know xx take care and hope this just maybe puts your mind slightly at ease x

Hi bubble. I really don't know much about CP or the holding head up stuff. All I can say is that 7 months is very early to worry about sitting unsupported - DS didn't sit till just under 9 months and no health pros batted an eyelid.

well, severe CP would have showed up by now in that she wouldn't be able to hold her head up when upright. Many babies hate being on their tummy.
Mild CP is rarely diagnosed before 2 or so because it involves walking issues.
My number 3 couldn't sit unaided until 10 montsh or so and he's normal.
DD (severe CP) has never even reached the milestone of holding her head up, let alone playing with toys and she's 4.

We have a little boy with Autism and like you a little girl aswell. She is now 21 months old and a feisty cheeky bundle of mischief. At 11 months she was still not sitting up and this was not long after our little boy had been diagnosed so we were already pretty upset. Anyway, she was referred to see physio and it turned out she actually could sit but was choosing not to or lacked confidence to do so and was also quite flexible and tall for her age which might have made it a little more difficult to balance. Within a week of that appointment she was sitting confidently.
Like other posters I think it is probably just too early for her to be able to sit at seven months and reaching milestones just varies so greatly that imo the average ages that hv or magazines quote do more to scare parents than assist.

Also may I add, getting our little girl to sit now is still a challenge...maybe more to do with her being on the go all the time
