My DDs (5) class has a star of the morning and a star of the afternoon every day. They get a special sticker and to sit on the star chair for carpet time. Since starting school in september she has been the star of the class twice. It always seems to be the same kids that get chosen for this (you know the yes miss no miss type).

They also have a golden award assembly every week where each teacher chooses 2 pupils from there class for a golden award. They get a certificate and a little trophy to take home for the week. DD has had this award once.

I know that all this seems really petty (hence the tital) but it the little things that really hurt to me. Her teacher very rarely has a positive word to say about her . Im sure that she just sees her at a PITA tbh, but again this could just be me be paranoid.

No your not being petty it is hurtful and probably happens in a lot of schools.Ds used to go to a school like this and I felt the same. You would of thought at this age they could make it so every child has a turn.

Thanks for your replys .

Your right about the self esteem, she tries so hard at school (comes home knackered most days) and she is actually one of the brightest in her class (according to her classmates LOL ). Every week after the assembley she come home asking us why she didnt get this sodding award !!

I guess her face just doesnt fit!! .

DH has told her today, to ask her teacher how hard does she need to work to get a golden award, and i know for a fact that DD will ask her .

Well assuming there are 30 children in a class, that is 15 weeks before everyone has an award. Don't think they have been at school 15 weeks yet - so they are not handing out second awards yet as they will go through everyone first. In reception DS1 got 1 award and in year 1 he got 2 awards which I was very proud of . I would be suprised if anyone made three awards.

Star of the class doesn't sound quite so fair.
