What does a joint clinic do?

My DS2 has a joint clinic on Thursday (4 in April). Can they diagnose, what is it like? His paed will be there and I think either a physcologist or a phsychaiatrist (crap spelling I know) The OT is speaking to them before hand and it seemed like my sn health visitor was hinting that this could be a moment when there is a diagnosis. She was asking if DH was coming not likely as has been to no other appointments (denial) and it is his birthday so feel to bad to get him to come. It is weird cause although I feel desperate for an explanation I feel really sick about it? Was sure that some of you had been there and done that and I could really do with something to abate my anxiousness and cluelessness. Maybe nothing will happen.

A joint clinic is simply where more than one professional sees you at once. They will both discuss your DS with you, rather than having 2 separate appointments.

So they confer and help each other form an opinion?

Yes. They will both specialise in slightly different areas, and may need to discuss their ideas with the other party, and you. Don't worry about it 0 I am sure it won't be as bad as you think. Presumably you already have an idea as to what the diagnosis may be anyway.

I think he will be diagnosed with some sort of asd dx even though I have been trying to prepare myself the reality of a dx is making me sad... On the other hand I would love to have explanations so we can just get on with life and living without the is he isn't he. Maybe I can get some help so I don't feel like the crappest parent in the world and so I can get his world a bit better. It feels like the dx process goes on forever.
