You may remember that SS refused to assess me or J because ADHD 'isn't a disability and he hasn't had his ADOS yet to prove the autism'!
Well, I complained to the Head of Children's Services and they agreed to do an assessment. Lovely social worker came round for 2 hours this morning and, though the team leader has to make the decision, the social worker was optimistic that they will take us on even before the ADOS results (test on Monday) and definitely will take us on if the ADOS comes back with autism.
She was really nice and J liked her too and she had loads of good ideas - outreach support, swimming lessons with a support worker, direct payments for after-school care and drama lessons and some anger management from the autism support team...didn't know there was so much out there. Respite offered too but still not keen on the idea of respite for respite's sake, not if he's just being babysat. Don't know why really. She left me a carer's assessment form to fill out too.
So fingers crossed that her boss agrees that we should be taken on! Knowing my luck, we won't, but I'm enjoying for once thinking there might be some help out there for me .
