SN children

Do parents of children with SEN drink more alcohol than those of NT children??

Just read a post that said:

"Am supposed to be giving up alcohol for January, but am going to ring DH and tell him to get some on his way home"

both DH and I burst out laughing - "That's just like us" we said.

Do all parents of children with SEN drink more than parents with NT children? What an interesting study that would be

Hi

Until I gave it up totally 7 months ago, me and DH defiately did. After a really stressful day a glass or 2/3 really used to help!

Or is it just having young children!?!

Would be a veryI interesting survey! x

I don't drink all that often but on the really crappy days I find myself wondering if 3pm is too early to open a bottle of something.

i would say yes, but then most of our friends have kids who have SN so i don't really know how parents of NT kids do on the alcohol levels

I had a really bad phase when I drank far too much, far too regularly. I had a sort of ephipany about it one day and cut down.

Correct spelling of epiphany might help lol.

Let's just say I came to my senses!

oh god that was me. Well thank the lord dh bought 2 bottles. Today ds1 has been stuck in (because I had ds3 at home as well and no help). He's only just gone to sleep. Asides from all the screaming mentioned earlier he's weed in his dolls house toilet (??/ wtf- although I did think that was funny), put apples in the tumble dryer and through the cat flap (they were green - he only recognises red apples) and finally fell asleep at 11.30pm.

If I'm having a stressful day with ds, I do tend to dive for the bottle by the end of the evening.

New Years Resolutions(amongst giving up nicorettes!) is cutting down on the booze(so far so good but it's only the 4th)and not coming on here after a good few drinks

I don't drink at all because one of dd's SN is epilepsy. I just know I'd be half way down a bottle of gin and she'd go into status and we'd have to call 999 while adminstering rectal diazepam. Not something you want to do drunk! Plus she needs carrying.
BUT, before she was born and I just had the other 3, one with ASD, one OCD and one ginger, I might have been found at the bottom of a few bottles
but then norm friends were also lushes. Maybe it was just Malvern [hmmm]

ah now I'm not a big drinker - comfort eating is my drug of choice (have put on 3 stone in a year since DS issues became apparent). I guess that alcohol or food is the obvious indulgence if you don't have much time to yourself.

I don't think we drink more, or even as much, as many of our friends/relatives who don't have children with SNs. We did cut down a few months ago as we used to have wine every evening. Apart from the hols and weekends we mostly don't drink during the week. We also drink "better waine" because we drink less of it and DH likes to try out different wines, he is a bit of a buff. My biggest indulgence is a nice cup of tea..... which has to be accompanied by toast, biscuits, cake, choc - whatever depending on the time of day.

We don't drink at all, because it makes us feel crap the next day which in turn makes it harder to care for the kids.
Maybe we're just lightweights though!

I don't drink that much - just a couple of glasses a week. I am afraid my indulgence is also cake, sweet things etc accompanied by tea like Davros - in fact most food in general! I don't know if I am worse by having a child with SN though - I think I tend to need more "rewards"...

I have to say that it's one of the NT children (4 year old ds) that drives dh to drink. His consumption is pretty much directly linked to how bad ds is being.
(I go for MN instead )

Michelle Heaton did sink some booze though. I was having a hangover just watching her!

I am T-total and always have been, the running joke in the past was that DH drunk my share for me, but that isn't the case now as he reckons hangovers get worse as you get old so has cut down his alchol intake.

I used to fall back on the cigs on particularly bad days but both me and DH gave them up almost a year ago, so I am with the cup of tea and a foody treat school of thought now.

I really do need to restart my Latin in Line classes though, as my foody treats really need to be balanced out
