Manuka has just mentioned this film on another thread. It's about an autistic boy who starts to talk when he is put on a horse and his parents realise they've found a way to help him. Looks really good.

Hi Pixel thanks for the link . That clip had me in tears, I think I would cry bucketloads if i ever see the whole film! I have an Autistic son who is non verbal and I would love to know how to get in to his world. Thats amazing that the Horse helped the child to communicate.

I would'nt work with my ds either, he has no interest in animals whatsoever, we took him to the safari park last year, he tutted and moaned he was bored all the way round

ds1 can't stand anuimals (hates fur). Perhaps he could communicate with a tractor or washing machine or something. I saw this story in the Times. They also force fed milk and vodka or something.....

I think the film that was on last boxing day was called After Thomas if I remember correctly, the one about the pet dog, sounds like the story you read, totaleclipse. I thought the film was good and it had me in tears a few times but someone else I know (an adult woman who has AS herself and two kids with ASD) tore it to pieces and said it wasn't accurate at all . Not sure I agreed with her but there you go, autism is something that affects all kids in different ways and they all respond to different things. The new film about the horse sounds great, I will have to have a look at the link, thanks for sharing that pixel xx

It wasn't accurate in that it didn't portray severe autism but kind of pretended to iykwim (they did things like stand next to a cash point chatting not holding onto their child). The shoe shop scene was pretty accurate though.

I think I've read the book the dog one was based on - "A dog called Henry" IIRC - it was OK, more realistic than Daniel isn't Talking - the boy involved did make a lot of progress but it did take a lot of time.
