About 7am, this morning there was a knock at the door. DD was up and about causing chaos, DS was still asleep. DD came to the door with me.
It was a man reading meters. I told him he could come in and read the electric meter, but it was unlikely he could get to the gas. The gas meter is under the stairs in a cupboard which is full to the brim as we are mid build on the extension. I even showed him just how much effort it would take to get to the back of the cupboard to see the meter.
He replied that he could come back this evening- I said, I couldn't promise anything.
Not being funny, kiddies on school holiday, he could obviously see one of my children has a disability-spent another 2 hour at hospital with DD yesterday, have major building work going on, half my house is in chaos, the other half is packed away in boxes...and he wants me to empty the cupboard.
He did come back this evening and I apologised and said it just wasn't going to happen and that it hadn't been that long since the meter was actually read by them. He said he would have to mark me down as refusing entry!!!!! I replied if he wanted to HE could come in, unpack the cupboard and put it all back after the reading was done. Funny enough he declined!!!

7am?!!? Sod any of the rest of it - 7AM?!!?!

I'm intrigued though... I always get a gas OR and electric man... never one who does them both...

I have the same supplier for both. I know some energy companies used to use contractors, who got paid on commission for the amount of readings they did- but I am going back several years when I used to work as a Custumer Service advisor for London Electricity. LOL- I even quoted to him that I believed ,legally, they only needed actual reading every so often, and the last one wasn't that long ago. Others I usually read and phone in myself!!!
DD is usually up around 6am, so it wasn't an issue for me. I thought it was the builders knocking for the electric extension lead to be set up for the cement mixer! LO wouldn't have opened the door otherwise!

I've been a bit concerned about that for a while now... I get a southern electric guy come to read it once every other month or so, I am with EDF for both , and I am part of a scheme where I submit the reading online.

Still ARGH for you in general though!

have you not rang them about him coming out at 7am, cos i am with the others, i would not be at all happy with that, i would ring them and explain why he couldnt get the reading, though am curious, if he got an electric reading, how is he going to mark you down as a refused entry, nah ring em and tell em your side, and make sure they know 7am visits with a disabled child are not welcome, i would.
