Hi,

I originally posted about this in health but someone suggested moving it to here instead.

I was wondering if there's anyone who knows much about ocular albinism? My partner has it, but when I've asked he seems very sketchy on the details. He has said that it's genetic and could be passed on to his children, but doesn't seem to know much more than that. I'm hoping to start a family in the next couple of years and I know that it's a major concern for him, and I wonder if that maybe why he doesn't want to research it further.

Anyway, I don't really know where to look myself, so thought I'd ask. I've tried googling but that brought up wikipedia as a 'reliable' source , and also patient.co.uk, but it doesnt have any real info on the genetic aspect which is what I was looking for.

Thanks very much in advance!

Lulabell

Hi Lulabell,

I knew 2 people with ocular albinism but unfortunately am no longer in touch with either. However I am pretty sure that it was explained to me that both parents must be a carrier in order for the child to get it. (In one of the cases I knew of, neither parent was aware of being a carrier and it was quite a shock when their child was born with it.) I assume there must be a way for you to be tested for the gene. Sorry not have more info for you but at least this will bump your post!!

Thanks very much BagLady, I'll look into that. I'd guess they'd be ok with testing given that DP actually has it. Thanks
