cerebral palsy varies vastly from people who are midly affected to people who are profoundly disabled. One person's answer won't be relevant to another's. Why are you asking?

if she has really poor head control I would say unlikely. but that is just going by children i have met. why is the walking part a big issue(not being funny but as I have a dd with cp and know a lot about it helps to know what to say iynwim)

I always felt walking was over-rated. More important is hand control. DD has no use of her arms which means she can't play which means she gets bored and yells. Sitting would be nice too. But walking, not an issue, she has a wheelchair.

he is 6 and not walking or standing, tho can crawl, and we are awaiting a 2nd opinion in oxford to talk about surgery to his legs

bobalinga i agree walking is overated. I have long since got used to dd not walking. hand controll and communication are my top points.

oh talking too. People get obsessed about speech; I think there are other things that make far more difference (comprehension for starters).

hi my dd has CP, mainly in her legs but she can walk, she started walking just after she was 2, she does have speech and bowel/bladder problems as well.

My ds has mild CP & can walk but he is mildly effected, he has always had poor head control as a baby he could not move his head at all.
Although much improved, his neck muscles are still very poor, he has never lost the baby head lag when being pulled from lying to sitting.
As the others have said CP effects each child differently & walking is not the most important thing. Best wishes to your friends dd.

the walking part isn't an issue to me!! she was just wondering, because she knows a few kids with cp but they were all walking or crawling by her age.

bobalinga how old is your lo?

trouble is nappyaddict cp covers such a wide range. i know children with cp who can walk and talk and children who have very little controll"(sorry can't think of the best way to put that)
my dd is unable to walk(Unaided) and didn't crawl. but with intense phisio sshe learnt to do a sort of bunny hop so she can get about.
It must be hard fro your freind but unfortunately with cp it is a case of wait and see. has she thought of trying cunductive education?

i'm not sure, i'll ask her. what is it?

she doesn't think she will walk cos she can't even sit yet.

dd did conductive education and although it wasn't great for us. the whole ethos really helped.

Our ds1 had very severe cerebral palsy and sadly never walked, spoke or had very good head control.

Took him to the Peto Institute in Budapest when he was one for 3 weeks but unfortunately it made no difference.

There are more important things than walking, imo.

Our ds1 was a very very happy, laughing boy with a wicked sense of humour even though he couldn't talk.

Well, he could sort of sit for about a minute but would then fall over (lots of cushions, of course!). Never crawled, as was extremely stiff.

Sadly, he died 7 years ago, when he was 7 (chest infection which went to pneumonia very very suddenly).

that's so sad. similar thing happened to my ds. kept going to the docs for 4 weeks about his chest. doctor said it was just a cold and even refused to even examine him on the last visit. left in tears and my dad told me to take him to a & e where i got told off for leaving it so long because if we had left it til tomorrow he would have died.

i am so sorry for your loss

it must have been so difficult for you.
i lost my brother and i know how hard my mum found it. although he was 21 so much older.

can i just add to the confusion by saying that it is also common for a child with cp to get a tempature for no reason.
