Hi all, am new to mumsnet have been reading threads for a while now and know am in the right company - am slowly learning the mn 'speak' so please bare with me! My dd is 18 months old she is visually impaired and globally delayed. She cannot sit unaided crawl or walk yet! but Babbles quite alot. She was born at 29weeks (I had severe pre-eclampsia we're both lucky to be here according to my consultant). In the beginning her delays were put down to her prematurity but it's now very clear that this is not the cause of her difficulties. We have no diagnosis but are waiting genetic and neurology results. Just want to meet someone in a similar position. Am not down hearted about my girl, I am SO delighted to have her I love her so much it makes no difference to me how she is she's mine and that's all that counts. This is the first time i've ever posted anywhere - am finding this quite emotional putting my thoughts into words but I would love to here from anyone in similar circumstance. Thanks for reading x Padio

Hiiya and welcome

I have 3 boys, ds1 is AS, ds3 has probable ASD (although someone threw global into the pot yesterday for good measure LOL), theagreement seems to be that at 3.5 he has a functional age of 18 months (see! we're finally getting answers! )Just no DX

DS1 was also born after pre-eclampsia, in fact eclampsia,it wasn't so early though- started at 34 weeks or thereabout, DS born by emergency induction at 38 weeks after he lost a pound in utero. If you ever want a chat / shoulder about pre-eclampsia, I have done some support work for a linked group, although ds1 is 7 now so a while ago LOL!

Welcome to MN, you'll be just fine now girl

Cheers Peachy, might take you up on your offer of eclampsia chat have always thought would be nice to do some support work for this cos it's deadly but silent! Maybe when DD is a bit older I would be up for some support work in that area (still am high risk for a second child though!) - it's amazing how life changes with children - i feel lucky cos for me I've found it the most fulfilling and worthwhile thing i've done in a long time that is being a mum!

Hi Padio
My number 4 suffered a lack of oxygen at birth and has cerebral palsy and epilepsy. Physically she can do nothing, no hand movement, no sitting, no rolling (now she is 3 they no longer refer to it as delayed). Cognitively she is a bit behind but then thats to be expected.
MN is great for advice and for finding out things you could be entitled too and emotional support.

Hi Padio
I'm a recent addition to MN too. I have 2 boys 7 & 4. DS2 was born at 28 weeks & has mild CP, development delay & undiagnosed anxiety/ocd type disorder lots of similarities to Autism, but he doesn't quite tick all the boxes!
I hope you enjoy MN there are lots of wise words on here, I've found it a great help.
