SALT group therapy starting tomorrow - what to expect?

Hi there, this is my first post in the SN area of MN (though have been on mn for years...). My son is 5.11 and has recently been assessed at the social communication clinic (referred by school - our concerns were only really about speech and language rather than school). He has now been discharged from the clinic, although rather confusingly the top of the page did say "Diagnosis: Autism". We think this must have been a typo as no one had told us, plus surely he wouldn't have been discharged, but I still haven't been able to get hold of anyone to clarify.
Anyway, the recommendations on the report were for him to have further speech and language support and extra social support at school. Then today we got a letter saying he is booked on a block of group S&L therapy starting tomorrow afternoon for 4 weeks. Short notice or what?! It's a pain as we have to try to sort childcare for ds2 (simply not going to be possible some of the weeks) plus we have an ongoing commitment looking after one of ds1's friends after school on Wednesdays, which is also going to be a pain to rearrange. Plus in a couple of weeks DS has a school concert which he has been working really hard for and there's no way I'm going to make him miss it.

I'm guessing there is little point trying to ask them to postpone his participation. I just wondered if anyone can shed any light on what goes on on these courses? I don't even know if it's worth doing.

Reading this back it looks a bit churlish. I guess what I want to hear is either "it's hard to get a place on these courses so your DS must really need it" or " they are a bit useless, don't bother if you don't think jt is necessary".

I know waiting lists are epic - the referral to the clinic went in last July and we just had the report from his assessment last week.
