Microarray genetic testing

The paediatrician has suggested microarray genetic testing for my dd, who has undiagnosed issues, learning difficulties, behavior that doesn't fit ASD, but shows traits of ASD that the paed suggests is worth investigating further. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of this, and whether it's worth going ahead and doing it or not? TIA

it is only a blood test. according to our geneticist, in most cases they do not find anything with microarray. but sometimes they do (as in our case).

If they find something, then it will give you info about the underlying cause of your Dd's difficulties but it does not come with a cure.
If it is a known chromo disorder, it may give you some pointers as to what the future holds but often the same genetic issue affects people very differently.
If you plan further children, you may also want to know if this is a genetic issue which has been passed on from either parent and the likelyhood of it happening again.apart from that, having a genetic dx did not make any difference for us. it is just another dx to add to her name. hth

My friend's dd very recently had this and came back negative - it only shows chromosomal deletions and duplications but is worth doing to see if there is anything to give a dx. Her dd got a genetic result for a rare disorder (via a subsequent specific test not microarray) in the end and having a dx has been useful to give a bit more clarity on prognosis, although it isn't a complete answer on prognosis as the genetic condition her dd has involves a really wide spectrum of symptoms.

Thanks for your replies. I figure we haven't got anything to lose at the moment, given that we don't have a diagnosis, just a list of issues and an acceptance that something isn't right, we just don't know what.

We are currently waiting for results from micro-array ... We too decided it was worth doing so at least if it showed anything we would know what we were looking st / how we could support dc better
