Ds has fine motor issues.

Use to have a scribe but uses laptop in secondary.

Part of his IPA (pointless non statutory agreement to meet needs) is that he attends the already set up touch type club everyweek. Took a term to get them to agree to record progress - I've not had feed back yet.

Took a while to fight ELSA support being moved from a certain day after school due to another club he attends - and school agrees the club is good for DS. Just managed to get it moved from after school on another day to during a certain weekly lesson once a week during school day.

So today I get a letter. To say that all students who have laptop benefit etc. That they can use it for GCSE if it's what they usually use.

But that all pupils who have a laptop must attend a minimum of 6 weeks touch typing on the same day I originally moved ELSA from. It starts 15 minutes after school day ends and is for an hour. If they pass it they get a certificate and if they don't they have to continue going.

Failure to attend and pass may result in loss of laptop.

I'm so tired of fighting a school who refuse to recognise DS emotional needs and academic needs.

It seems so childish and not exactly air entail to say - fine take laptop but I also have had DS falling apart since I told him about having to quit the club as they have started something and he's already starting on it.

WWYD?

He's been doing an online touch typing course at school since he started. It's a club they run and open to everyone but his attendence is part of his IPA.

They weren't monitoring the progress of it through his acheivement in club or its affect on lessons. They agreed at the nightmare meeting in December to record and monitor progress of the actual course.

Now they are saying all students must attend this 1 hour course for the 6 weeks or they risk having their laptop removed.

wonder if it's something Ofsted picked up?! but if it is then it just proves they should have been doing what I asked at the beggining. Ds is halfway through something with this club and now has to stop it and can't do final performance. (Technical theatre).

That's what I'm tempted to do!

Just not return the slip! If asked say he does touch typing as part of Sen needs and you are meant to be monitoring it. If he's not making progress that way then doing another course another time will make no difference.

I mean how else do I answer DS question "so because I can't write I'm not allowed to do drama club.?" Which TBF is what it boils down to.
