DS1 always appears in our room naked in the morning/middle of the night (he strips off at bedtime). Previously "ds1 go and get your pyjamas" has been met with no response. But now - as of this week- off he goes, fetches them and brings them to us.

The joys of being able to remain in bed.

HIs understanding is improving all the time. Still comes in for his cuddle once dressed. Which is nice (although he's a fidgit)

Do you think it's DTT Jimjams? DS2 will now respond to 'Give me X' in most situations, though it usually needs a physical prompt. Would just look at me blankly two months ago. We're a way off 'go and get X' though. Congrats to DS!!

Get 'em good and conditioned early, that's my advice! It has really stood me in good stead with road safety, shopping, morning routine etc. WOrking using someting like DTT will only help with language too, DS has great receptive language, much of it learnt during his DTT progs while working on things other than language iyswim.

Davros - it's in receptive lang that we've noticed most improvements in DS2 since starting DTT.

That's great Sphil (and DS1 JJ!). I strongly believe that people can work too hard and have too high expectations of language and communication teaching (inc SLT). Not that I'm saying you shouldn't do those (although DS hated verbal im etc) but, while you are teaching other things, you ARE working on language and communication and vocab.

I suspect a lot of it is this executive functioning thing as well. He could understand "go and get" if it was close (same room) and he's been able to "give x to y" (different rooms) for a long time. But go and get pyjamas involves holding that and organising himself down a flight of stairs to climb back into his room, find them and bring them back to us. It may be that the sequencing of that has been the problem rather than the understanding of what was required.

Road safety is our MASSIVE problem davros!
