My son has ASD. He was awarded high rate DLA last year with low rate mobility.
I think the high rate reflected that he rarely went to sleep before midnight.
In may/June, his paediatrician agreed to try melatonin.
My son is now sleeping by 9-9.30, which is a huge relief.

I've waited a few months to make sure it wasn't a fluke, but he is now reliably sleeping earlier.
I need to let the DWP (?) know this don't i, I think he will go down to middle rate, or does the need for melatonin still mean he will receive high rate?

it is his care need. if he is now sleeping through you don't have to provide night time care and should let them know. it is about care, not medication.

I'm in a similar situation with my DT2 but unfortunately the melatonin only gets him off to sleep at a reasonable time. He still wakes at night so haven't achieved the nirvana of sleeping through but we're in a much better place than 6 months ago.

Same here. But the Dr wants to review the melatonin in three months with a view to moving him off it. So I'm going to wait and see I think. If it becomes permanent I'll call the dla people. Though Lord knows we can do with the money, seeing as his sen means one of us can't work for more than a few hours a day.

That's a good point Kojack. Ds's dr may not prescribe it long term, unless he's under CAMHS.
We're still waiting for an assessment so I'll wait until I know.
