1 year 9 months to go from referral to OT to an assessment report.

That's pretty shocking, isn't it?

That's is shocking! Ive just for my nhs OT service to confirm how many staff they now have to do sensory integration therapy (not that you can get any!) In the space of just 2 years they have lost 50% of the staff qualified to do it so even though here you had no chance before, you have even less chance now!

Do you have any explanation why it has taken so long for them to get you an appointment?

Sadly that's the norm here.mthe waiting time from referral to actual assessment is 18+ months and then s few motnhs wait to get the actual report.

That is shocking lougle , it took us about 8-10 weeks from paed referral to first appointment. Saying that DS got discharged after just 5 sessions :(.

It is shocking.

Mind you, I've never even managed an OT referral for dd1! Despite significant motor delays, huge sensory issues etc etc, with 9 years of being I the system under our belts, I don't hold out any hope now Grin

NHS OT is just not geared up for kids with SN. DS was discharged by NHS OT not because he is better but because they can't do anything more for him. So the NHS just writes him off. Pretty sickening really Angry

That was our experience of SALT, fairgame. Dd1 was discharged by 3, despite having no functional language at that point. She has a severe language disorder, but could not be helped easily, so they chucked her out instead.

The waiting list in the LA next to mine is massive. We have been very lucky with OT in my LA [about the only decent service] but despite having staff trained in sensory intergration they can't offer it due to no money Sad

They diagnose and discharge round here, Dd3 has been extremely lucky to have been followed up due to a visual perception score that fell below their threshold.

Its very poor isnt it!!

Yes, DD2 has been given a sensory diet, given an OT therapy plan and discharged.

We sound like we are lucky with our OT; she goes into school to see ds. We've had one report on a questionnaire which took 5 months to get. The main problem with them is lack of communication. We only know they go into school because his teacher mentions it. No idea what they are doing, how often or how long they intend to do it. But as he is being seen I don't like to rock the boat!

It just doesn't make sense to me. Surely, if you wait six months to write a report then you will have forgotten most of the assessment interview especially if you have seen lot's of kids in between. I know they have notes but hardly comprehensive. I think it's why they end up with very generic reports. We had a really good CAMHs psychiatrist who did her reports/letters never later than 48 hours after assessment and unsurprisingly in my opinion these were the most accurate of what had been said. In contrast, the SALT reports which arrived three months after assessment were very generic and missed lots of what I thought was important.

I think the report had been written for a while, but she was waiting for school to re open.
