Although the draft statement mentions the need for salt and OT it fails to quantify this. Can somebody remind me what this should look like or how it should be phrased please? How much detail should be in the statement part 3 b the special educational provision to be made they seem to mention that its needed and school should implement programme set by salt and practiced in targeted 1:1 sessions daily (asd unit) but no mention of how often salt should visit/review targets. The same with OT 'under the guidance of an OT school should explore ways of managing dd sensory issues' should this be more specific?

they also mention in part c that an IEP should be drawn up within 2 months of starting and progress reviewed every 6 months Shock.

Not looking forward to this meeting tomorrow!

It depends really what the evidence is about what your child needs. SALT might be phrased in terms of something like 1:1 sessions for 30 minutes per week with a qualified SALT with experience in whatever difficulty your dd has; or it could phrased in terms of a programme to be administered by staff in school; or a combination of those. However, there probably won't be any evidence that says what specific support your dc needs, mainly because the experts know the LA doesn't want this. It might therefore be worth pointing out that they do have a duty to specify and quantify, and if they haven't got any evidence about that they need to go back to the SALT and specifically instruct him/her to advise on this.

In your dc's case, I think that they need to make provision at least for the SALT to have a defined amount of time to keep her under review and monitor progress, set up the programme and adapt it as necessary, train the TAs and anyone else in school implementing the programme, contribute to IEPs and provide reports for and attend at annual review meetings.

Similar with the OT - that really is appallingly vague and they really must go back to the OT and ask for advice on the specific support needed. Any competent OT must be able to say now what should be done to assist with sensory issues.

Thanks nennypops, I have private reports from a salt and OT (as well as the nhs ones) which are more specific about what support is needed and how often but they have chosen to ignore these completely.
How does it work regarding the funding the school gets? If they quantify a set no of hours per week for example do they have to then pay for that?

I wouldnt get into a debate about the funding, that's their problem not yours. I would insist they implement all of the indie therapists recommendations, and specify and quantify them in part 3. if they refuse ask them to finalise the statement then appeal through sendist.
