I have just been told about this drug by my son'a psychiatrist - it is new over here but been around in the US for a while. Has anyone tried it with their child for ADHD (especially if combined type ADHD) and how have hit found it?

Amphetamine derivatives tend to be a last resort over here, since they're even more open to abuse than methylphenidate.

I think it has only just been licensed. My DS is on 55mg methylephenidate at moment and is aged 8 so I was wondering what else is out there.

Do you know if amphetamine derivatives are stronger than methylephenidate? When u say open to abuse, in what sense?

Did the psych mention Strattera, btw? It's a long acting drug so doesn't have the evening come down of stimulant drugs.

This is a few months old but thought I should contribute just in case others come by looking for advice.

Full disclosure: I am 25 and have been diagnosed with adult ADHD, currently taking Elvanse.

Yes, Elvanse is a stimulant, but there are both long acting and short acting stimulants. Elvanse is the long acting kind, containing lisdexamfetamine. The active component, dextroamphetamine, is activated once it reaches the bloodstream.

Personally I am of the inattentive type, not hyperactive, but I have found it to be less 'edgy' than methylphenidate and more constant in its effects. No significant side effects other than feeling tired by the late evening and appetite suppression. Personally I work late into the evening so I also take the short acting dexamfetamine as a booster as and when needed.

This may seem obvious but everyone is different and will react differently to the drug. I get on well with it but other might not.
