OK posting this because it is such an easy change to make. But there's not much research backing it up- more a theory.
Apparently one of the proteins found in milk can exist in 2 forms- A1 and A2. If you have a leaky gut then these can pass through the gut - where the body recognises them as foreign and produces antibodies. There has been a suggestion that the antibodies produced against A1 can attack cells in the Islets of Langerhans in the pancreas resulting in diabetes. It has also been suggested that the reason casein free diets can have a beneficial effect in autism is because they remove A1 from the diet.
In NZ and Oz you can now get milk rich in A2- produced by guernsey cows (not sure about jersey) I think. Goats (and I think sheeps) milk is also rich in A2s. Normal milk is produced by Friesians (sp???) and high in A1.
Anyway I don't really want to go casein free with ds3 but have switched to goats milk (and guernsey if I can find it) because its so easy to make the swtich. You can even get goats milk butter in Sainsbury's. Switched ds1 over as well. DS2 has hardly ever had any cows milk (was bfed until 2 and doesn't like cows milk except as cheese and yoghurts), that's the only difference between him and ds3.
If you type A2 milk into google you get lots of hits.
Oh and supposedly it might be good for preventing heart disease as well!
I think I remember reading about this in the New Scientist a couple of years ago- if anyone has that article I'd be grateful if they could let me see it.
Oh and obviously complete coincidence but I switched to goats milk 2 days ago and since last night ds3 has been pointing properly. Who knows? Perhaps some brain fog has cleared, or maybe conincidence. Don't really care if it continues. :)
