We leave on the train this evening

and Bee's surgeries are tomorrow morning.

She does not do well with anaesthesia, so 3 procedures are being fit into the one anaesthetic, but that means that she will be "out" for several hours. They are doing vascular and intestinal surgery, so it is not "tiny" stuff, but we are hoping to be back home and recovering by week end.

It is tough having the family separated for these things - Bee and I are in one city on our own, DH and DS stay home. Travel and lodging, of course, are not free... so there are a few different stresses that are on my shoulders.

What's worse, this time around, is that I just can't shake a nagging feeling that something is going to go wrong. This isn't the most involved set of procedures she has ever had, and it will be anaesthetic #37 (or so), but this feeling is really eating at me. I SO hope I am wrong.

I should be packing - I have NOTHING ready and the train leaves in 8 hours. Maybe I'll go out and do some errands first, then come home and get the rest done.

Please send sanity, positive thoughts, brew and TONS of wine I think I'll need them.

Thanks for all the hugs, honks, prayers and positive thoughts. They worked.

We did have our hiccoughs - a couple at least.

We arrived and the booking for lodging that was supposed to have been made was not done, leaving us almost without a place to stay, as the residence was fully occupied. Fortunately, we got a room at a nearby hotel, and Bee was tucked in and off to sleep only a couple of hours after her regular bedtime.

Surgery started on time, but went about double the time that was allotted. They had trouble in a couple of places, including having to remove a small portion of her intestine as it was damaged and was at risk of dying off.

The short version of a long story, though, is that we are now back at the hotel. The surgeon felt it to be reasonable for me to take her from the hospital and provide her care on my own, and she will be reassessed in clinic tomorrow morning before we travel back to our home.

One bright spot in all of this is that the secretary in the surgeon's office who had me smashing my head against a wall for her obstruction, know it all attitude and general incompetence has been released, and will not cause any more drama. I don't know why she is not working there any more, nor do I care, I am just happy that one less hurdle lies in our way.

It is nice that this is behind us - now we can concentrate on getting her better finding our centre again... it has been a wild few weeks.
