Those who came to the last one were saying how much of good time they had, so I wondered if there was interest in an Easter Hols meet up, (at Gateway Centre again.)

I think Wilts have their hols earlier than the rest of the country? So I would be around to do a meet up some time in w/c 8th April...

Food if you want....Mushroom Curry, lentil dahl, naan, salad...

No probs if no-one is up for it... just thought I would offer

We find this place heaven on earth

http://www.forestry.gov.uk/haldonforestpark

But probably too far for you. They have a fabulous cycle hire place with bikes, trikes, and more, call them if you need spcialist stuff, they seem to stock tons. The explorers trail is dotted with secret paths and giant glockenspiels....and it's only a couple of quid to park, no entry charge

Yep, Woolacombe beach is fantastic!

Exmoor zoo is nice (not too big, but interesting animal selection)

The Quince Honey Farm thingy was nice - not huge, but would occupy an hour or so...

Ilfracombe is nice for a potter around (but the beach isn't as good as Woolacombe). It also has a nice little aquarium.

We didn't like The Big Sheep. VERY expensive and nothing much for DD (3 with cerebral palsy) to do.

Big swimming pool thing at Croyde which would be nice if the day is wet/cold.

We've heard good things about Watermouth Castle, but didn't make it.

(Can you tell we were based a little further north than you? We were literally around the corner from Exmoor Zoo)

Woolacombe bay, best beach on earth grin

Huge and sandy, rocks to climb, huge dunes, surfers, ponies, dogs, mine love it.

Calling all SWMN - we're coming down to Bideford next week - any ideas as to what we can do - come rain and shine?

All ideas welcome as I have stupidly agreed to check out whats available

I emailed Bournstream about the possibility of using them for a meetup and got this reply from them:

It sounds perfect for your group to use & enjoy together!
And yes, best & necessary for a couple of you to join & be shown the ropes - just contact our joining coordinator, Jinny, her details are on the website under "how to join" & they run fortnightly on Saturday mornings at 11am - or by separate arrangement Jinny can tell you all about. The one-off joining fee is £10 & others may chose to either share that cost or leave a small donation in the box on site when you come, that's up to you of course.
Bournstream is not staffed so it's important to be fully briefed & know what you're responsible for yourselves in coming to use the play site when it suits you all to meet up.
All our play site details - rules & pictures & info - can be shared with the others in your group via the website, our latest newsletter should be on their soon under "news" page.
Do please find out more & come to join - & let Jinny know how you first heard about Bournstream too?
We look forward to you making the most of all we can offer - but you'll need to bring your own picnics & sunshine!

I will try googling. We seem to live in a bit of a desert in terms of any kind of help or services

Thank you EllenJane

It is hard, eggandcress. Does your area have 'contact a family?' I think they're a bit like 'meet a mum' but for parents of DC with SN.

eggandcress Thu 28-Mar-13 22:07:45

I am very jealous - would love to meet up one day
Sounds like fun. It seems very difficult to meet other parents with sn children

Glad it's inching in the right direction, at least.

I really appreciate Internet friends, TBH. They're more reliable than RL ones. And don't get hurt if you ignore them for a few days hours. smile

zzzzz Thu 28-Mar-13 21:17:21

Things are inching towards better, but I really wish I could have come. sad

The concept of Internet friends is a little weird, but it works doesn't it.

Dh home for the long weekend now, so I am planning my first lie in for a long long time.

Sorry you couldn't make it, zzzzz. Hope you are bearing up. X

PolterGooseLaidAChocolateEgg Thu 28-Mar-13 21:02:18

How are you zzzzz?

zzzzz Thu 28-Mar-13 21:00:01

Oh it sounds like it was lovely. envy

It did sort of all pour out. blush It reminded my of chatting with my family (not my DSs) when we all just talk over each other.

PolterGooseLaidAChocolateEgg Thu 28-Mar-13 20:52:44

Apologies if I talked too much, I rarely get to talk about this stuff unhindered and everything sort of pours out blush

Ellen, I wish you were ds's TA smile

NoHaudinMaWheest Thu 28-Mar-13 20:44:27

Sorry to all those who couldn't come missed meeting you.

Thanks to Sign for organising and great food, to Poulter for the now legendary chocolate cake (and the lift), to Ellen and all for the best chat I've had in ages.

Galena Thu 28-Mar-13 19:25:15

smile

Haven't heard of this one, thanks. We were talking about Hop Skip and Jump, there's one in Swindon, or maybe a safely enclosed school field with trim trail we could use?

Galena Thu 28-Mar-13 18:55:34

I don't know what it's like, and I don't know if one or 2 of us joined whether we'd be able to go as a group, but has anyone been here?

I provided no food, but consumed much. blush I might have to shift that balance a bit next time.

signandsmile Thu 28-Mar-13 18:43:20

Lovely to see those who came, and those who cOuld not were missed...

Amazing cake from poulter, and superb shortcake from nauhaudin...

Next one in the summer.. and may be outside somewhere safe...

Galena Thu 28-Mar-13 18:13:18
