I was with asome women today who were talking about SN I think one has a child with cp.I am not really that well informed on this although I have learned lots from MN and so am not totally ignorant. They were implying that CP is v rare in babies delivered by c section (I think)and that an elective section rarely has an outcome of cp.I was quite surprised at this but kept quiet as I didn't want to put my foot in it.Can anyone clarify this for me

I think most cp develops during pg, so they're wrong. I seem to recall reading that 10% of cp is caused by a traumatic birth

Hi noddy, my dd was delivered by elective section and had breathing problems about an hour after she was born, she went down to SCBU for about 3-4 hours then they brought her back up to me but she was very very jaundiced but when i voiced my fears they said she wasnt.

Thanks I thought that there were various causes they seemed to be implying that it normally happened in a traumatic delivery Glad to know I was not completely clueless but didn't like to say.See you Saturday Mabsxx

interesting. I have learnt something as well, I always thought it was the other way round and that most cases were due to the birth.

they reckon my ds's happened when i was around 20 wks pg (interestingly, i had a big bleed around that time). When he was born at 27 wks, they could tell the damage was quite mature and had been around for 6-8 wks they thought.

My twins were born at 29 weeks by emergency section. They were ventilated and had a few hiccups along their way.

DT2 has had no diagnosis yet, but it is conformed he has low muscle tone and joint hypermobility. I said to the OT that all my findings on the net relating to DT2 point to either dyspraxia or CP. However I have to wait now till I see the peads who recently assesed him to confirm and that appt aint til August
