Only Eidsvold's dd1 could....

enter an operating theatre and greet every member of staff there with a beaming smile and a personal hello, waving like the Queen to her loyal subjects.... that was the highlight of surgery day.

She ended up having grommets - a shame but oh well.

Absolutely hysterical and inconsolable for about 20 minutes in the recovery suite and despite me asking them to phone for Stuart to come down - cause dd1 was asking for him, they did not - telling me that only one parent was allowed in recovery.... to which I held my tongue as I had finally managed to get dd1 settled.... otherwise the woman would have met Ms Eidsvold - snotty teacher and speaker downer to plebs...

mid afternoon - great recovery to the point of being caught dancing on the bed when the surgeon came to see how she was... managing to drink and eat icy poles as well as some jubey sweets...

THEN - hit rock bottom post first meal... she was starving so she ate a lot and then the pain hit. Cue another 45 minutes or so of her being quite distraught whilst we shoved painkillers into her and waited for it to hit. I had to go as dd2 was with us and she was tired and getting very ratty - so both dds crying and moaning. Dh phoned just as we got home to say dd1 was somewhat settled but had been distraught for a good 30 minutes and he was exhausted from trying to keep her calm and stop her trying to get off the bed and take off.

So - providing she does okay with breakfast, they are happy for her to come home tomorrow.... they were very pleased with the surgery. Dh will stay with her tonight..... hope she finally gets some sleep - only had about an hour between 5am this morning ( not including brief surgery time) and 7pm tonight.

So generally a stressful but successful day was had by all......

I'm glad dd1 finally got the go-ahead for the op.

:o at the waving and the dancing!

Fingers crossed that she will be back home and completely pain-free asap. xxx

home this morning and playing etc like normal.... not really appearing to be in any pain but we have something called Painstop which is a stronger, longer lasting pain relief compared with paracetamol. Only problem now - after two days of people shoving medicine down her throat at regular intervals - she is very reluctant to take it and so it becomes a big drama. Dd1 used to just open her mouth and take it.... but not now... may have to go back to bribery and yoghurt.

Poor dh who stayed on the ward with her got no sleep - dd1 was fine and woke her usual time BUT the other much older children on the ward were crying and one boy spent the better part of the night screaming and telling the nurses he couldn't breath and moaning about how he couldn't breath.... along with mother having goes at the nursing staff and demanding the consultant be summoned in the wee hours of the morning.

I told dh a shame he couldn't sleep in his office. I figured dd1 was fine when he told me she was up in the playroom at 6am playing in the wendy house making cups of tea.

NOW we just have to see what a difference this makes to her sleeping and her tiredness and whether the grommets help the hearing. After doing a hearing test - one ear was fine but the other was not so good... hence the grommets.

Am rushing out to Gymboree now, but wanted to say I am glad all went as well as possible. Great mental image of dd1 entertaining the medical staff! Hope the pain eases.

do hope all goes well. My ds nt has had gromets put in about 8 times!!! when ever he came back to the ward he would always be sitting up screaming. I decided it must be a reaction to the general as he was the only one to do itBlush
