hi there I have been lurking here and just reading for about 6 weeks and have just joined as i saw a post that i could finally give a useful tip on

my DS who is 3 in a few weeks does not have a DX yet but the paed is sure its ASD and said as much in the letter we got after his 1st appt, he has just started assessment nursery at out local CDC and has been doing PECS (already on phase 3) and TEACHH with our Portage worker for 2 months and is doing absolutely brilliantly.

so i just thought i would say hi to you all and thanx for the advise i have already taken from you

HI welcome. Phase 3 of PECS! That's great (and makes life a lot easier), Where are you? I'm in the South West of England with three boys. DS1 is 6 and severely autistic, ds2 is 4 and fine, and ds3 is 1 and hopefully fine.

yes PECS is a godsend as it has curtailed alot of frustration and headbutting (from him LOL)
thank goodness he'll be on phase 4 in no time as he is already discriminating pretty well and we havent officially started it yet (V proud)

Oh god do you know me???? I'm in plymouth too Hmmm I wonder who your portage worker is.......... Have you done earlybird (oh maybe not if no dx)? Do if you get a chance- the person who runs it is absolutely lovely and has been a great help at times.

Not the same one as me, I can't remember her surname but I think she did our earlybird. If there's only one Sandra she did. She's good at getting people going on PECS I have heard, she knew her stuff. I;m sure I drove past her today in town. Took me ages to place the name with the face iykwim. And I wonder who your SALT is, ho ho ho- I had a run in with one at the CDC....... Are you doing the A team assessment? We did that- it was good, we'd just moved from London where we'd had nothing and I was quite impressed.

I know another mum with a little boy of 3- she's always keen to meet other mums- we should do a meet up sometime.......Everyone else I know has much older kids.

no not yet just the one, tho have been trying and hoping to be sucessful this year

PECS has given me a whole new confidence about trying as DS is like a totally different child
he had no communication at all and now is constantly looking for his book and giving me symbols all day (VV proud emotion)

i think there are 2 Sandras and mine is being coached by the other one

i dont know what assessment he is doing but he goes to starlight nursery

the very first appointment i had was with at a SALT drop in at my local health centre and it was Sharon Jones and DS totally trashed the room, cleared all the shelves and ripped stuff off the walls dragged her tape recorder off the surface and broke it i saw her and the one who is based at CDC last time tho ? something thorn i think
