My dd is 1yr old and about 15lb in weight (she has Down Syndrome and is just small as a result - growing well along her centile line, but is just small)

She is finding car journeys really upsetting/frustrating now as she wants to be sat upright and facing forward, rather than reclining in a baby seat. She is 1 and although is the size of a 3mth old baby she doesnt have the mind of one ;)

Anyone got any suggestions? I know that the 20lb weight limit on forward facing seats is there for a reason and I dont want to put her at risk at all. I would rather she screamed every journey than have any damaged caused by being in the wrong seat in an accident.

BTW she has been sitting unaided for 4mths and has very good head control/posture/strength (ie not especially floppy/low muscle tone)

Don't know about SN specifically but dd was in her infant seat until almost 18 months as she was also tiny. Personally I wouldn't switch at 15lbs although mine probably weren't quite 20lbs when they eventually turned round. There are some larger seats which face either way, so would be more upright but still face rearwarsd atm, (Britax and Bebeconfort do some) and would last until about 18kgs. dd is now 4 and still less than 13kg so still in her harnessed stage 1 seat.

my dd has only just started going into a forward facing car seat, she's 20 months. i used to give her a favourite toy (her baby phone) to play with and that worked for me.
