have you joined the ABA-UK yahoo group?

I found it quite useful for finding tutors.

otherwise, you could think about an ad on gumtree? or looking throught he nanny/mother's help ads on gumtree/nannyjob etc - essentially you want someone who is interested in learning and in teaching/playing with children (assuming you have a consultant who can train up?)

Thanks Silverfrog, have just joined ABA UK Yahoo group now...but just thought I would see if there are any mums out there that could recommend any tutors in my area as recomendations are always quite important I guess. Did you find your consultant on there too?

I found my consultant by doing lots of research - mainly via google and the archives on here - and then speaking to a few of them.

I went with the one who:

was best recommended by people whose opinions I respected
spoke most sense (imo, of course)
seemed to gel best with what our family needed at that time.

one ruled themselves out by insisting on a full time 40 hour a week placement, with absolutely no flexibility, and more importantly, no input form us. I was not about to hand over my 2 year old full time to someone else and not even get a say in targets etc.

read up, ask questions, ask some more (both on here and of the consultants) and remember - it is you who is in charge. you are doing the hiring. find someone who fits with what you want.

Will have a look tomorrow and let you know. I think the person in charge of the site has to give you access. Email them.

it's just an email group - so you write a new email and send it to the group.

yes - have a quick look through recent messages. there have been a couple of ads for tutors.

you can go minimal, eg "tutor needed in oxford", or add more info (age of child/verbal or non-verbal/hours needed etc)

and then email it to the group, and hopefully you will get some replies.

There's also the ABA Tutor finder website. (Sorry, can't remember the url but google it, it'll come up.)

And the VB Community website here. Like the yahoo group, you have to email the site moderator who will email you a password, so there'll be a day or so delay till you can post. I found my two best tutors through that site.

Depending on which programme provider you're using, they might help find tutors for you too. I think PEACH and UKYAP recruit tutors on your behalf (?). Independent consultants won't as a matter of course, but they should be pretty helpful about putting word about for you.

Hi @dessi21 . Did you manage to find a good ABA tutor or consultant in the Buckinghamshire area? I'm desperately seeking help for my toddler. I'd appreciate any info you can give here.
