Just that really, what does precision teaching mean in SEN literacy?

HGathor,I know this is an old post, but this is the subject of my MSc, so let me know if you want to hear more.

Well, I don't know and probably should so someone spill the beans!

It's too much effort on my part for something that may be of only mild interest to other folk.
Sorry.

In a nutshell? I wouldn't ask if I were weren't intersted. It looks similar to toe by toe and other wave 3 interventions?

Here

Standard Celeration Chart (and use thereof) is what makes it really stand out.
Months of data can be represented and noted on one piece of paper.

I odn't konw about Toe by Toe but the fact that there is no proper research cited on their website, coupled with some serious syntactic errors has me going
If you wnat a rock solid evidence based reading intervention programme, you will not get better than Headsprout.

I'm using it in my MSc and plotting progress on SCCs.

Interesting- thank you.

Robin, what are wave 3 interventions?

Moondog - thanks for the information. It seems to be a particular method of teaching. The IEP just says "precision teaching" but doesn't give any other detail. I will ask the class teacher.

Please let me know!

What programme are you following Cornsilk?

Report
robinpud · 03/03/2009 19:04

I do that too Cornsilk.. just don't have any fancy name for it!

Moondog- the waves are a school based approach to planning, designing and tailoring effective provision for all children.

Wave 1- the effective inclusion of all children in daily, 'quality first teaching'

Wave 2- Wave 1 plus additional, time-limited, tailored intervention support

Wave 3- Wave 1 plus increasingly individualised programmes based on independent evidence of what works.

So your Scc would be a wave 3 intervention; ALS would be a wave 2 intervention and effective differentation would be wave 1.

Ok Robin.
How do they quantify the 1st though?
I work in a lot of schools where things sound great on paper but rarely are in practice.

robinpud · 03/03/2009 20:59

Can't speak about general, can only tell you about my wave 1- differentation for a lower ability literacy group,( p5-2c) generally daily at two levels; then I provide work for 3 children with EAL and then I provide something different for a chld with high level needs functioning at about p5. That's my wave 1...

Do you use a Standard Celeration Chart?
If so, electroinc or manual?
Do the kids pplot their own data?
