6th form for bright asd son?

Anyone know of a boarding school for a bright asd 16year old? Looking south/ midlands, he is a lovely boy but quite different and wouldn't cope in a totally mainstream school, he needs some classroom support to stay on task, but wants to and is quite capable of getting good maths and science A levels, and going on to further education. Have looked at Slindon but they don't do his A levels. Quaker schools not interested sadly, neither was shiplake
... And here's the rub, he doesn't much like other asd children so would refuse to go to a school that was set up primarily for other children like him. Good schools guide suggested Milton abbey, but fear he would be eaten alive. We have had painful experience of bullying ( understatement) and can't risk putting him through that again- he's too obviously quirky...

no offence but are you really sure he is suitable for boarding school?
so many of them seem not to have time for anyone who is 'quirky'.
have you looked at state boarding schools?
have you heard of this school?

Know what you're saying but we're overseas and he desperately wants to go away to school! He says he wants more independence and has seen older siblings go away.. Obv if we don't find a lovely one then we think again- just wondered if there are any lovely ones out there?? His school finishes this summer and I currently have nowhere for him to go in September ...

I recently visited More House School in Frensham. Sounds
Like it could be a match for him. I was blown away by their approach and all they have to offer.
We are also overseas and if accepted our DS would board.
We have a taster session after Easter.

I highly recommend you check out their website.

Thanks both of you- have checked out both websites and look like they might be promising...will call after holidays- times ticking on and it's so so dispiriting calling schools whose whole tone changes when you mention ASD.

There are already boys with Aspergers at More House. The school said to me "every child comes here with a label. But we don't deal with labels we look at each child's individual needs". I nearly wept at that point with relief.

More House answered my email during a previous school holiday so always worth trying that route.

Expat momma - did you by any chance look at Bredon too? How did they compare?

Have a place booked on the Bredon open day in May so can't comment yet.

Except to say that More House on paper seems to offer more academic subjects at A level.

DS is very bright and still young.

I am hoping with the correct support he will be flying by the 6th Form and therefore think More House may fit him better.

I will cancel the Open Day at Bredon if DS is offered a place at More House.

The distance of Bredon from the London airports and channel ports is a disadvantage.

More House told me they could organize transport to Heathrow/Gatwick if needed ??
