Ds is in p2 and in November (start) we were told by his teacher that he might hve some additional needs. It's now MArch and we are no further forward in terms of any diagnosis / help / advice / info.
I have been told he's in a queue to be assessed but they don't know when that will be. I feel really quite stressed that he will potentially be in p3 by the time anything gets acted upon. He's the youngest in his class anyways so really doesn't need anything else holding him back. He definitely has made progress this year from my point of view but I don't know if is enough iykwim?
Things which were highlighted as potential issues were:
Poor pencil control when drawing and writing Runs strangely (I've never noticed this) Isn't as good at things like catching and kicking as e should be Forms letters strangely Gets letters back to front
His teacher is lovely and seems very good but I think the process is being held further up the management ladder. I just don't know how much of a 'fuss' to create - I've already been in a lot lately over bullying.
The bullying was only an issue with one boy in general ds is a very happy and popular boy, tends to be shy but LOVES school.
Hi, it can be difficult to get things moving and I know how frustrating it can be when it seems that your child is having to wait for help when they need it now. My best advice would be to contact your local Partner Partnership via your local council website. Good luck I hope it all works out for you.
It can be like waiting forever can't it, I totally understand how you feel wanting things sorted now. My little girl in year two not sure what that is for you but her class is 6-7 year olds, her problems were there from the start, in year one at parents evening the teacher expressed more concern but its only now a year and half later that she's started getting more help, she's been seen by the educational psychologist has an iep etc but its only just happening, it can take time to get seen. Perhaps chase it up with the Senco and find out where they're up to with regards him being assessed.
