Just wondering what it would cost in total, assuming I got no bursary or funding.

Hi there,
I'm awaiting the award.

I followed the E801 course with the open university. The AMBDA bit is 'extra' but linked with it and is linked to Bangor.

It costs roughly £1200 for the OU course and about £470 for the AMBDA bit. There is a certain level of discount for serving teachers.

It has been hard work, but worth every ounce of sweat! I was fortunate to get TDA funding last year.

I have also spent quite a bit (don't go there, over 1K) on the assessment resources necessary. However, I intend to go private in addition to my current work in schools.

Go for it. It has been a life changer and I would say my practice in schools has improved exponentially as well as my ability to narrow down what children really need via assessment as part of an evaluation of needs.

I believe the OU courses start imminently.

Otherwise, it may be worth having a look for accredited courses via the BDA site.

Good luck.

puffling your profile says you are in MCR. MMU were running the course for no cost recently although they may have introduced a cost this year - see if you can get on for this academic year
Alternatively try the dyslexia action site - they had funding recently I'm sure

I attended my Ou course tutorials in Manchester.

That's useful info too, thanks cornsilk.

Thanks all. I was hoping to get the course funded but I work in an independent school and would imagine I therefore don't qualify.Have emailed MMU today to find out about the course they run.

Bramblebooks. Did it cost you 1.5K or was all of that funded?.
I'm stunned that you spent £1K on resources. What sort of thing were you required to buy?!

puffling, how about doing a course that, unlike the AMBDA, actually teaches you how to teach anyone, dyslexic or not, how to read?

Havea look at
