Safe Sling Wearing vs Bag Slings

Is it time for a new thread about safe sling-use? (No killng of other thread intended )

One that is perhaps more encouraging to potential new sling-users (who quite rightly may be wondering what all the media fuss is about)

One that says, isn't it great that some authorities have finally heeded the long-standing warnings about bag slings,

But that also points out that a properly-designed sling, if worn correctly, is a completely different kettle of fish

And it would be terrible if people were put off all slings because some of the earlier press reports have not made the distinction

Not sure about etiquette of posting anyone else's links, so will start with these (sorry if have pinched one posted by someone else). Would love a link to TICKS advice if anyone has one

it is kinda like cots.

babies have died in them quite tragically but no one would suggest banning them.

you make them safer and educate people about them.

same with slings. but for most journos that is information taken a bit too far....

this article encapsulates the attitude of the company, doesn't it.

Ms Setzler has been an active member of the BWing community for years.

For years avid sling wearers have known that these things are a death trap.

in addition to Bag slings, normal slings are not safe if they are used incorrectly.

this site shows how an incorrectly fitting pouch or ring sling or poorly wrapped wrap can present similar dangers as bag slings do.

parents need to learn from seasoned babywearing parents and pass on the knowledge themselves.

youtube, sling meets and parenting forums are some of the best ways to learn. a shop worker in a department store normally won't know enough.

foxy, !

Like many, I was aware of M'liss Stelzer's tests

But hadn't been aware that the company had been so heedless of her warnings

I agree with pps that the babywearing community have long known about the dangers of bag slings, and have sought to have them banned.
It would be a tragedy if this were to stop people babywearing at all

is the babasling a bag sling? i was always checking DDs airway clear but she often fell into hunched up position

no the babasling is not a bag sling, but if you position your baby incorrectly or is not adjusted properly on the adult, it has the same effect as a bag sling.
