OT ish - bike seat or trailer?

What are the pros and cons? I'm not feeling too confident with the weight of my ds in the seat but could practice I guess! But I'm keen on a trailer as could possibly also use to take my bags etc to work, do have panniers too though.
Just wondered re safety, practicality etc. I suppose a trailer is better in cold?!

Sorry I posted here wasn't sure where to post and I'm a slingy mum !

Also I think it's practise - I get them mixed up!

Trailer is slower, more expensive, more protected for the kid wrt safety or weather risks, more exercise for you. Much handier if you have spare bags to haul, too. Trickier in traffic potentially or using cycle paths.

Seat lets you cycle faster, cheaper & easier to fit reliably, harder to balance. We had both, depending on which was better for a specific outing. Get a reclining seat if you go for a seat.

Thanks! Starting to realise we will have both! We have one we were given but I just don't feel safe with him - I prefer the lower gravity, I used to cycle with v heavy panniers, I think it's the higher weight which is the issue.

A trailer would be fine where i live and for my purposes I think.

Also - they last for older children too?

I'd possibly go on a cycle path with it, but a pretty good path almost road like
