Sling recommendation for a non walking 2yo

Hi - my ds 2 has severe developmental delay and muscle weakness! He hates sitting in his pram in busy places like shopping centres but will quite happily let me carry him! He can't hold on or wrap his legs round my waist and at 13kg my back is really starting to suffer I also have a 16 week old to transport! So, I thought a sling or carrier might be the answer. I've read a few of the threads and the ergo seems to be a popular choice! Is it suitable for a non walker of this age in terms of actually getting him up unto my back by myself!
There are no slingmeets near me and the nearest ergo stockist is an hour away so don't want make that trip in this weather without a bit of advice beforehand!
TIA

I don't think an ergo would be suitable as ime they are too short for older children. I carried my 20kg 4 year old comfortably in a buckle waist mei tai that was toddler sized, so very supportive.

If you'd like to give it a go, pm me and you can have a borrow of mine.

Its easy to put a non walker on your back - you put them on your hip, lean forward and hoik them round

I wouldn't get an ergo, I'd go for a Patapum Toddler (I have one for my 12.6kg 2yo and it's very comfy :)) or a Boba 2G - this is supposed to be even better. Go for an online stockist who accepts returns in case you don't get on with it.

Basically for a toddler of that size you really want a carrier specifically designed for toddlers, rather than an all rounder like the Ergo.

It might also be worth investing in a babywearing coat (and/or buying a large fleece and cutting an extra head hole for your toddler!) as I find it less supportive when worn over bulky coats.

The Ergo might be too short in the body to support your two-year-old comfortably.

If you post your question here you will get plenty of advice from experienced toddler 'wearers' and you are likely to find something suitable on the FSOT board. And if you look here you will be able to learn about the different types of sling, and their pros and cons.

I assume as you mention the Ergo you would prefer a buckle carrier, or soft structured carrier (SSC) as they are generally known.

If so, I would recommend the Rose&Rebellion custom toddler SSC (very different from the smaller standard R&R's), Petite Panda, Nubigo, Kanga XT, Olives&Applesauce (O&A) 18" and the Kinderpack (but these are so in demand they are very difficult to find) as brands well worth looking at.

HTH.

Brilliant - thank you all so much for the recommendations. I'll get researching! Glad I posted or I would've just ordered the ergo!!

Thanks again!
