Moby - when is it ok to let their legs dangle out?

I have been using a Moby for my son (11 weeks) and have been carrying him in the newborn hold with his legs tucked up. He's pretty long and huge (98th percentile!) and I'm starting to wonder if he'd be more comfortable with his legs hanging out... I've got a borrowed Moby with no instructions so was wondering if anyone had any thoughts / advice on this.

Thanks in advance!

It's fine - as long as their knees are higher than their hips (and their legs aren't spread too widely by your body). DS always used to wriggle his legs out from pretty early so I always carried him like this.

Just make sure you're wearing a coat over him or get some babylegs or something as they'll get cold otherwise. Trousers always seem to ride up. Also if he's wearing a babygro just pull slightly on the ends of it so that the feet aren't too tight and pulling his toes curled.

Try here
Your baby should be seated, knees above bum. If his legs where dangling like the commercial carriers do there is still a risk of damage to the hips.

i always had ds3 with legs out because he was long and gangly and hated having legs in!

I mean dangling from his crotch, which would be almost impossible in this and most styles of carriers/wraps, only possible in the hugely commercial types. Perfectly safe seated with legs hanging free from the knee IYSWIM.

Thanks very much - good point about making sure he's warm enough. I'm going to put a pair of DD's old tights on him under his babygrow! Thanks for the tip about tugging on the legs too Bertie.

I think he would be comfier with legs out now. But you can always cover his legs up with the horizontal band to keep them warm.
