Keeping baby warm when out in clse baby carrier

Is there a sling cover (something akin to the nifty sling covers I've seen for the baby bjorn) that will work with a close baby carrier?

i don't own a coat that will fit over me and DD (who is 1 month) and really don't want to buy one that enormous! I could put her in her pram suit but that just feels too bulky on her in the carrier...

If a suitable sling cover doesn't exist, perhaps I should just buy some warm fleece material or something and make a sort of wrap to go over the sling...?

You can get babywearing covers like this that fit over the top of a sling. I'm assuming they would work over a close carrier, as they work over woven wraps.

There are probably others too, just google 'babywearing covers'

I had a Moby wrap sling, not a close. I used to just wear my normal coat, not done up, over the sling and add a pashmina type scarf over the front. DS was always toasty warm.

I put ds in a fleece all in one suit from Little trekkers when he was that sort of age, and he was always toasty

dd wears tights, baby trousers, socks and a pair of ds's pj pants

A big stretchy fleece coat over both of us did the trick for me. It doesn't have to be enormous if it stretches!

I borrowed one of DH coats. which went round both of us

I second tillymama's suggestion of a MaM cover - you can tie them to the sling if the sling is the right type, or if the sling isn't one you can attach the cover to, you can just tie the cover over you (like a second sling :o)

My mum gave me a fab 80s swing coat that fitted over us both until DS was quite big (I can still get it over his legs in the sling at 18m)

Have a look in charity shops for a coat / fleece about 2 sizes up from what you normally wear.

Keeping the wind & rain off is the main thing, as long as YOU are warm and she is not separated from you by layers and layers then your body heat will keep DD warm. So wear your coat open around her even if it won't zip up over you both.

Pashmina shawl / scarf thingys etc essential for wrapping round and tucking in round back of baby's neck / head, also filling gap between open coat and baby. These also come in very handy for concealing or wiping spillage, emergency blanket / changing mat / nappy etc :)

Big shawl-type cardies that you tie instead of button can often be wrapped or pinned to cover you both. I have a Primark one that fits over DS on my back as well as front (very stretchy!) You could also experiment with wearing a cardigan backwards under your coat?
