Slimming World

8 stone to lose, is this possible?

Hi everyone,

I have 8 stone to lose!

I'm starting slimming world tomorrow and don't feel very confident that this is possible.

I am 25 and morbidly obese, this is my last attempt at a lifestyle change before weight loss surgery.

I am a student, have 4 children, and really want to ttc, but having trouble due to being so overweight. I don't really want to cook seperate meals every night and I'm a big fan of my slow cooker as I'm so busy during the day. So the food I make will have to be family friendly.

Is this possible?

Ime slimming world is one of the easiest ways to lose weight and fit in with family. The vast majority of meals can be adapted to suit slimming world. It's all about being prepared and home cooking.

Oh and when I was proper focused on slimming world I used my slow cooker several times a week.

It is definitely possible, but be prepared to take it slow and steady. I started as a size 26 in April 2015 and I've lost 3.5 stones so far. I'm now an 18/20. I haven't really applied myself over the last 6 months, so I think I could've lost more than that in a year.

It's really easy to make family friendly meals. We pretty much eat family favourites but SW versions of them. I've just eaten leftover spag bol for my lunch.

My cooking has hardly changed since starting Sliming World as in all honesty it was the crap I ate inbetween which was the problem not the actual meals. The only thing now is that when they have pizza I have something else - normally a portion of leftover spag bog I have frozen (could eat it all week so no hardship there)

It is possible. It won't happen overnight but it will happen if you stick to it

Good luck

And emma Well done - that great. Shows it can be done

Hi purplerain I needed to lose 5 1/2 stone when I started in January I have lost 3 1/2 stone so far. So 8 stone is definitely possible on SW, check out all the success stories on the SW website (you don't need to be a member to read them).
I am lucky that I only have to cook for myself ( I'm a pescetarian) my husband cooks for himself and our youngest son - they both eat meat so we have always done different meals at times even pre SW.
He does this to help me focus on my weight loss.
I batch cook for myself at the weekends, then freeze the food in single portions so that I always have something ready if I don't want to / have time to cook something that night.
Is it possible for you to do something similar and use your slow cooker I or 2 days a week just to make something for you to freeze? Even if you have to cook a family meal each night for everyone else then you could just take your food ready made out of the freezer on a night that they wanted something that wasn't SW friendly
Lots of other folks do manage to combine SW with family meals on most / all nights.
SW has got to be a better option than surgery especially when you have children to take care of.

Its is possible.... I went from 17 stone and I'm now 9 stone and have been for the last 5 years. I did it with slimming world, it's took me 18 months. I hate veg and fruit so I was shocked how fast it came off!
Good luck xx

There are two people at my group in similar positions to you open.
One has lost 11.5 stone in I don't know how long. The other has lost over 9 stone in about 18months.
Amazing inspirations to the rest of us!

Definitely a family friendly plan. We haven't changed our evening meal at all. Just adapted slightly. Saturday we had steak, sunday roast lamb, last night spaghetti bolognaise.

Just take it 1/2 stone at a time. Ime it's the first couple of stone that are the easiest to lose and you will be so motivated you will keep going!

I don't see why not. I 'only' have 3 stone to lose, but I also have a dp and 2 dd's to feed. Most recipes can be adapted to be SW friendly - in fact some of my recipes already were SW friendly, as pp mentioned it was the crap I was eating in between that I needed to cut out/cutdown on. I think that's one of the good things about SW, it makes you aware of how much you're eating. Before I would have scoffed down half a packet of biscuits, but now I only have a much more sensible portion of 2 or 3 because of the syns.

There's also loads of recipe ideas on various blogs online. I like Two Chubby Cubs and most of the recipes I've tried from them have been delicious and suitable for all of us.

Wow thank you all for your positive replies and well done to everyone on the amazing weight losses!

I have a year to lose as much as possible, if I haven't lost a good amount I will be having the surgery as my weight is greatly affecting my health.

I really do not want surgery though, because as itmustbemyage said I have my children to think of and to look after. I just really want to be a better role model for them.

I know where I go wrong, I tend to not eat until late in the day and then eat all the wrong foods.

I will have a look at the family friendly recipes and make a meal plan before I do an online shop. Does anyone eat any of the ready meals? I thought they might be good for evenings when I'm at uni.

I think it's great that you want to try and lose weight before going down the surgery route. However, don't be too hard on yourself if you do need to have surgery. A friend of mine was a size 32 and had surgery just over a year ago now. She has lost over 10 stone in a year and looks amazing now! She's got more to lose still, but it's changed her life completely.

I have only tried the Singapore noodles and it wasn't that nice. To be honest I would rather defrost a portion of my homemade bolognaise sauce. Doesn't take long to cook a bowl of pasta

I didn't think much of the meals and the sausages are horrible, Taste like plastic. I lived omlettes and bacon and eggs and mixed grills. Can have jacket spuds, beans and salad as a quick tea X

I think a good heavy solid breakfast is really important on Slimming World, I think it helps to regulate your appetite. You do get 15 syns and I think you should 'spend' some of them on fat in the morning, so you feel sated.

what works for me is a bacon, egg and mushroom breakfast (and none of this one egg malarky, I want 2 or three eggs, with 3 rashers of very trimmed bacon, a double handful of mushrooms, all fried up together in 1 teaspoon (5 ml, measure it with a calpol syringe because spoons vary) of oil. Then microwave some tinned tomatoes and add to the plate, and serve with small brown toast (2 slices, HEXB).

I've got 5 stone to lose, I lost 10lb in the last three weeks, and I am a bit of a pig. I think that might be the trick - I won't allow myself to be hungry at all, so come 8pm, I'm fed up of chewing things and don't want to snack.

Love reading this as I'm in the exact same position and after weighing in at 20stone 3lbs I put my target as 10 stone 7lbs which essentially is 10 stone and I am keeping in the mind set that I can do it.

I definitely think I am going to look into a personal trainer as well as getting an exercise plan made up at the gym at my induction tomorrow.

I have 1DD and I am a single parent been at it for two days and I'm really enjoying it. Iceland have slimming world ready meals that look gorg (bought a few today), burgers and soups and if you buy three you get a free pack of yogurts. I buy my fruit from tesco for lunch and get melon, watermelon and pineapple finger pack or the boost fruit and veg pack and they're great to snack on too

I lost 8 stones...it's definitely do-able, it took me 2 years, but, that was with a big spell in the middle where I wasn't really doing it properly.

Have a search for the TV programme "weight loss for love" it was on last night and I thought it was great! They both looked so much better and healthier at the end.

The lady even ran a half marathon and despite nearly having a heart attack, the man did really well too..... bear in mind, both of them were morbidly obese. I know that the man lost 13lb in 5 weeks and the lady lost just over 1 stone in 5 weeks.

It's definitely possible but by the sounds of it, what you eat with family either from the slow cooker or not isn't really the issue.

So family friendly/slow cooker meals will make it easier as you can all eat together but that's not where the problem has been if you get what I mean?. You must have been over - eating outside of family meals. Unless every one in your family is overweight? In which case, ignore me.

Try to keep an honest food diary. My fitness pal is great for tracking calories but only if you're really logging portions etc. And you can't just guess, you need to weigh things a lot of the time.

Unless you want to do low carb but with a structure like Atkins or dukkan? (otherwise, people often think low carb is no bread or pasta etc but low carb also means very limited sugar including fruit).

Extremely effective with good science behind results but it has to become a way of life rather than a diet.

Good luck OP!.

Yes you can lose 8 stone. I joined SW in August 2011 weighing 18st 12lb, and was 11st 5lb by May 2013. During the next year, I lost another stone making a loss of 8.5 stone in total, which I have kept off for 2 years.

emmaluvseeyore I start the sessions with the hospital next week, they last a year. After that year you can decide with their advice whether you still want to go ahead wth surgery etc.

Well done again for all the amazing weight losses, it's so nice to hear positive stories and know that it can be done!!

Makesomethingupyouprick my DP is overweight but he does heavy weights and majority of his weight is muscle. My children are not overweight, they eat seperate meals to me and DP majority of the time as a couple of them are quite fussy. They are also extremely active and attend lots of clubs, such as dance, swimming lessons etc. So I think this helps too.

I need to lose at least 10 stone and I have lost 2 stone in 4 months on SW.

I set my first goal at 10% of my body weight though, as 10 stone seems virtually impossible BUT now I have already lost 1/5 of that..... so it is doable.

Don't beat yourself up , I will put on 1lb one week and lost 4lb the next at the moment but when I started I had a steady loss of 2lb a week.

I hate veg (apart from peas and carrots), and salad but eating as much meat and potatoes as you like is brilliant for filling yourself up. I just have carrots with every meal and eat speed fruit like strawberries for dessert.

Good luck. I was offered a band too, but have always refused it. I got 12 weeks SW on NHS but have been advised that I can only have 2 x 12 weeks in 2 years, so I just hope that I can continue to afford to attend the meetings.
