Losing with PCOS and antipsychotics?

I am very tempted to start SW but am worried that the odds are stacked against me being able to lose weight. I take antipsychotics which cause weight gain and also am currently being investigated for polycystic ovaries and would be surprised if the tests came back negative.

Do any of you have inspiring stories about dropping the pounds whilst on antipsychotics or with PCOS?

I am also being investigated for PCOS at the moment, but I got my 15kg award yesterday. However, I think everyone is different so some people get more symptoms than others. Why don't you give it a go? You can always stop if it isn't working for you. It may help prevent you from gaining weight.

Hi Bigsister,

I don't have any experience of anti psychotics, however I do have PCOS. I joined SW 14 weeks ago and have lost 1st 6 pounds so far. This is on the slower side compared to some other members, and I do feel like it may be due to the PCOS and I wonder why conditions such as this are not taken into consideration at SW as having an impact on losing weight. However, I'm really pleased I started. I need lose weight in order to be able to start Clomid so I have a goal in mind and it's a fantastic motivator for me to keep going. I don't think I would have lost the weight without SW, or certainly not in that timescale. I still have 2.5 stone to go so will be sticking with it. The plan is fantastic and doesn't feel like a traditional diet at all.

As Emma says, you could give it a try and see if it works for you. The consultants are lovely so you could discuss your meds one to one with them if you wish to, so they are aware of the situation. Best of luck

Another with PCOS checking in. I'm 9 weeks into my slimming world journey and 1st 1/2lb down. It's not particularly quick for me but I'm happy to be loosing, I find the weeks I'm more controlled on my carbs are better than the weeks I'm less concerned.
