Slimming World

Does slimming world work? And how quickly?

I'm desperate to lose my baby weight (3 stone!) So far have been calorie counting and trying not to eat carbs but I'm finding it difficult because I'm breastfeeding my 3 month old which makes me very hungry! Also it's difficult to find motivation as I don't have a to w to compete diet with. Would slimming world be a better option and has anyone lost a significant amount of weight in a few more baths while following it?

I did slimming world about 5 years ago, and lost just over 4 stone . Not quickly - first few weeks yes, but it took me nearly a year. Its still off now, which I am really pleased about. I found it very easy, and was never hungry.

It works for some people and not for others I think. It definitely worked for me a few years ago. I'll have about three stone to lose once I have this baby and plan to do slimming world. I key thing is to go to the meetings though. Knowing you'll be weighed every week really does help your discipline. You can definitely eat more, so it would be good while breastfeeding.

I've lost a stone so far on SW, I'd totally recommend it. It focuses on what you can eat rather than being restrictive and there's a special plan for breastfeeding mums

I much prefer Weight watchers to Slimming World as I'm not keen on being forced into a low fat diet every single day, but i do use SW recipes quite often.

Fast weight loss is not a good thing. About 1-2lbs a week is what we should be aiming for and its about what SW offers iirc

Has worked for me so far, am a stone and half down and counting. There's a voucher in this weeks Woman's Own magazine so you can join for free (usually a tenner i think) and just pay the usual £4.95 weekly fee.

Yes it works. I lost 2 stone of baby weight in 4 months and kept it off. I'll be going back after DC2 is born Smile You can eat loads of food so it will be good if you're breastfeeding.

It works, I've lost 1 stone 2lb in a month (including one week when I actually gained - it was my birthday). Good luck!

It's early days for me so far but I lost 5lbs in the first week and am aiming for 3 stone altogether. I am now half way through the second week and have a 4lb loss already Smile
I am finding it really easy and not feeling hungry at all. I joined a club as I think I need the weekly weigh in to keep me motivated.

I want to lose about 1.5 stone in total, and I'm currently 12 lbs down in 10 weeks.

I'm amazed how easy it's been. The hardest thing was curbing my desire to jump head first into the breadbasket, but I don't even miss it now.

Good luck!

I lost 2 stone in about 6 months. Definitely a good plan if you are hungry a lot, and someone in my group was bf and there was a slightly adjusted plan for her.

I started sw last week and my weigh in day is Thursday so obviously anything could happen weight wise by then, but I weighed myself last night and I'm 5lbs down!!!!

Just a warning against weighing yourself midweek. Our weight naturally fluctuates, but it most accurate when you weigh yourself at the same time every week. I know it is difficult, but I only weigh myself once a week at the same time. I wouldn't want anyone getting upset because they haven't lost midweek or that their end of the week loss wasn't as much as they lost midweek.

Yeah I'm well aware anything could happen with my weight between now and Thursday, as I said in my post, but it's nice to have a little look and seeing a weight loss inspires me to be super duper good for the rest of the week!

lk26: a day's food looks like this for me:

Breakfast: 2 weetabix and milk plus a banana, or zero fat greek yoghurt with fresh fruit and a drizzle of honey. Weekends I might do scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and mushrooms fried in frylite.

Lunch: on working days, I take a huge salad with cous cous and chicken, tuna or smoked salmon. I take a dressing in a separate pot made up of balsamic vinegar, lemon juice and salt and pepper. On the odd day I buy lunch, I get soup or a jacket potato with beans.

I take snacks of fresh fruit and yoghurt, but rarely eat everything as I'm so stuffed after lunch.

Dinner: I usually cooked from scratch anyway, so a few tweaks such as changing to frylite, ditching cream and butter, and cutting down on cheese has helped.

I'd say that most of our meals are based around baked / grilled meat and fish with lots of spices and marinades to keep it interesting. I've served them up with rice and potatoes mostly, with loads of salad.

I've found the slimming world mags really good for recipe ideas. The latest issue has a recipe for a beef kofta curry which was delicious.

Also we like eating asian-style food anyway, and I've found they translate really well into being SW-friendly.

As I said in a pp, I was a bit if a bread addict before, but now hardly miss it. If I do eat it now, I feel uncomfortably bloated.

I did SW while BF and I have to say my losses were REALLY slow. My consultant (was going to group then!) told me I needed loads of additional Healthy extras (the dairy/cereals bit) so I was eating more cheese than I did normally. Then my DS2 (was around 8-10 weeks old at the time) dropped 3 centiles off the weight chart things and it coincided exactly with the point I started doing slimming world, so my HV told me to stop.

So I would speak to a consultant about healthy extras and the plans you can follow, I think TBH the red/green days probably work better if breastfeeding.

... and I'll raise you a very large slice of lemon cake Grin.

Dinner tonight was SW chips, fried eggs (using frylite) and a large baked field mushroom with herbs and balsamic. Yum.

I think all my syns have gone on the cake today. Hey ho ...

Hi those of you that have lost a stone or more in 5 or 6 weeks, did you have much to lose in the beginning and did you do exercise as well?

I'm desperate to lose a stone in 5 weeks. I'm one and a half stone over weight but want to lose 2 and a half overall.

Sw is working for me. I lost a stone in 4 weeks. I'm 3 months in now and 2 and a half stone down. Have stone and a half to go.

Wasn't sure I'd be able to stick to it as never cooked from scratch but I'm enjoying learning. I'm so glad I joined as already feel so much better about myself
