Slimming World

Am I doing something wrong on slimming world? Not doing very well!

What am I doing wrong?!!!
So I've been on virtually every diet you can think of and the only one I ever had success on is the good old stress diet following a break up years ago, combined with the Atkins diet and replacing evening meals with a bottle of wine! Not healthy!

Anyway as you can imagine the weight piled back on, I've also had a baby since then and am currently 2 and a half to 3 stone over weight. I've tried a number of diets over the last 3 years since DD was born. Have gone through all of them, WW, 5:2, atkins, and currently back to slimming world.

I started back on slimming world (on my own as I already have the books and can't afford classes/haven't got time for classes at the mo) exactly 3 weeks ago. Did great the first week and lost 3lbs but rewarded myself with 'goodies' that weekend. Epic fail! Following saturday weigh in I had gained 2lbs back.
Was good again the next week...lost 2lbs. Had a few Valentine's Day treats the evening after weigh in. Nothing major though. Been extra good all week this week....Weighed in today expecting to see maybe 0.5 loss. No.....

I GAINED 1lb!!!!

So very annoyed!!!

I haven't been exercising as I was in a bad car crash at the start of the diet and am injured so can't fully exercise at the mo. I might attempt a run today however...we'll see.

I have been predominantly following the original plan with the odd extra easy day here and there.

A typical day would be (original plan)

Breakfast
Overnight porridge oats...35g (HeXa)
70g dried apricots (HeXb)
Topped with Asda frozen summer fruits and frozen blueberries (both thawed overnight)
Vanilla mullerlight

Mid morning - banana

Lunch
Syn free veg soup (homemade - literally chicken stock, veg, seasoning)
Few slices of Ham
Apple
Satsumas

Dinner
Salmon, broccoli, carrots, butternut squash, small jacket potato (HeXb)
Mullerlight yoghurt

Evening snack curly wurly, alpen light, options hot choc.

Throughout the day I generally drink tea...quite a lot. Not a massive amount of water but a few glasses.

I feel like I've missed something off but I don't think I have! I haven't really felt hungry and so I have been sticking to it.

Muller lights! Not sure how you'd lose weight eating 2 of those s day as well as the chocolate/Alpen

Are mullerlight a not syn free on slimming world? And alpen lights are either counted as hex or I syn them...

Muller lights are syn free.
Your diet sounds really good for slimming world! Jacket potatoes are also free and not a hex.

Syn free!? Think you're finding out that they aren't! What a con

Can I ask if you take milk in your tea?
As a hex, you could be having 300ml semi-skimmed milk, or 30g cheese.

I only joined December so I am only familiar with the Extra Easy, so this might be different if you do an older plan.

I know! But if I'm following slimming world as I understand it that's all apparently acceptable! Horace have u done Slimming world or know the principles to tell me if I'm doing it right or not?! Or anyone else for that matter!!

26point2 miles...tell me about it! Any diet tips lol?!

Poppyseedbagel ...I do have milk in my tea and sometimes count it as a Hex. If not I'll count it as a syn

If that's an original day or extra easy then you're having too many healthy extras.

If an extra easy day:

Porridge oats are a hex b choice.

With the b choice of apricots that is 2 b choices.

On an original day:

You have 3 b choices- oats, apricots and potatoes.

Most Muller lights are syn free, according to my consultant and online. The vanilla which OP said she has is syn free.

Banana & Custard Yogurt, 100g
Cherry Yogurt, 100g
Coconut Yogurt Sprinkled with Dark Chocolate, 100g
Mandarin Yogurt, 100g
Mango & Passion fruit Yogurt, 100g
Mint Yogurt Sprinkled with Dark Chocolate, 100g
Orange Yogurt Sprinkled with Dark Chocolate, 100g
Peach & Pineapple Yogurt, 100g
Raspberry & Cranberry Yogurt, 100g
Rhubarb Yogurt, 100g
Strawberry Yogurt, 100g
Toffee Yogurt, 100g
Vanilla Yogurt, 100g
Vanilla Yogurt Sprinkled with Dark Chocolate, 100g

All are syn free to the best of my knowledge. Other varieties vary in syns from 1/2 to 2.

Just had to double check but yes jacket potatoes are hex on the original plan, maybe I should try the extra easy plan and see how that goes!

I've been attending SW for the past year and have found my weight loss slow but consistent when I stick to it

They've done away with the original plan now and I never did it so I could be wrong but do you get 2 HexB's on it?

If you're buying Allen lights make sure they're not the ones with "new and improved" on the box as these are not a HexB and have more syns in.

Personally I'm stuffed with overnight oats and berries so the apricots would be overload for me and I'd probably have soup, ham and 1 piece of fruit at lunch time then choose a curly wurly or cereal bar and replace the other with another piece of fruit.

Overall though yes you're sticking yo the plan although if you have milk in your tea your probably adding on at least 3 syns a day and not counting them.

Yes muller lights are syns free (not calorie free), they are like 99 calories a pot I would only have one a day. Things on slimming world are free but you if you over eat it's still extra calories. So I would only have one mullerlight, and have more vegetables instead of fruit for example carrots to snack on.

Why are you not doing the new plan completely. Are you counting your syns right if your doing the old plan

NapoleonsNose · 21/02/2015 17:08

I'm currently back at SW and what you're eating sounds very similar to my daily diet. Not all mullerlights are free anymore. Since Extra Easy came in, some have syns now, although generally not more that 0.5/1 syn each. Is all your meat lean? I've got to admit I'm finding it much harder second time around. First time I did SW, I lost nearly four stone in just under a year with the first couple coming off in a couple of months and without doing any extra exercise. This time following extra easy, I've only lost 5lbs in a month. Keep going OP - eventually all those 1/2lbs do add up.

shitebag · 21/02/2015 17:08

Was just about to add that porridge is a B choice not A.

A- Dairy B - Fibre

Report
LostTeacher · 21/02/2015 17:10

Yes they are a b choice which means OP is having 3 a day instead of 2 (on original).

This will be the reason for weight gain.

Dollypopsicle · 21/02/2015 17:10

Thanks poppy. So it's not the millers that are wrong then!

Lost teacher...as I understand it I can have 1 or 2 hexa's and 2 hex b's is that right? So say for example I had oats and apricots I can count the potato as syns?!

Horace...I hear you really I do! My will power is sooo bad which is why I think slimming world appeals! But I think u may have a point! Esp re fruit

Ps I'm doing the new plan I think you should eat less fruit and eat more veg, do the new extra easy plan and you are cheating as you said so obviously your going to put weight on

Report
Dollypopsicle · 21/02/2015 17:13

I think I chose the original as its eating less carbs like pasta/rice etc which I can happily go without. Maybe I will try EE!

OP posts:

LostTeacher · 21/02/2015 17:14

Yeah that's right.

Or you could do extra easy if you want to eat more potatoes/ rice and pasta but would have only 1 b choice.

You could then have oats for breakfast, pasta for lunch and jacket potato for dinner. As long as 1/3 of your plate is a speed food (or superfree?).

You can't have oats, dried apricots and potato unless you syn one of them.

Healthy extras work out as about 6 syns each so that's 42 extra syns over the week.

Report
Dollypopsicle · 21/02/2015 17:14

Ps it's not every day I would have a 'carb' eg jet potato with dinner...most days I'd just have meat and veg

You could do the extra easy sp plan because that has low carbs and you get two HEB

Report
specialsubject · 21/02/2015 17:15

remember if it is sold as 'light' i.e. low fat it is stuffed with sugar. These yogurts are a 'treat' (or a punishment in my opinion...) not an everyday food.

cereal bars are also a con; loads of sugar.

I'll try extra easy for a while I think!
