You just don't think about the big number you have to lose and concentrate on going down a bit every week...as long as you keep going in the right direction you'll get there eventually. Make smaller goals, you get a sticker every half stone, aim for them.

Agree - make small goals. They come round quickly & aren't so daunting. You don't HAVE to lose 10 stone. Set a realistic 'first target' weight & go from there.

I will be your buddy if you like?

BMI 35..similar height to you and 13 stone 2.
My aim is 8 or 9 stone.

I'm taking it one step at a time..and you should be really proud for joining..I don't mean that patronisingly. .its bloody hard. Just think of every meal you replace with a healthy option as a step..that's how I get around it. For breakfast I used to have a can of coke and crisps ..now I have fruit and cereal or toast and an apple after..and I think well look at what I could have had..and nd how much better it is for my body not to be eating that rubbish.

Just set mini goals, it's a big lifestyle change and I found it hard on my first week last week.

I'm in too. Same amount of weight to loose and first SW class tommorow. Eek. It's the breakfast I really am dreading changing - I love my diet coke, toast, pain au chocolate and sometime snikers! Written down it's appalling.

Can I join too, I went to my first class today, and really enjoyed it.
Im 12 stone 9 and only 5ft, my first target was set at 11st 10oz.
I have been really good today (not even twelve hours yet Grin)
I have only eaten free foods and a 'cake in a cup' for a syn, but Ive already got a headache, think its going to be a long first week .

Report
LittleDragon · 26/02/2014 23:22

heronsfly your syns are there to be used! SW actually advise you use between 5 and 15 per day! Many people at the class I go to actually say they lost less when they didn't eat enough syns when I asked if I have to use them.

heronsfly · 26/02/2014 23:54

Thank you dragon, I really need to sit and read the books properly, I think I am just eating free foods without giving it much thought.

Can I join please? I am going to my first class tomorrow night!

I'm 5'7, 15s 4lb. I've had three babies in quick succession and now need to get fit again. I've batched a freezer full of meals from various sw recipe books to make life easy. Hoping to use my sins to have a crunchie at night with a cup of tea Smile

LittleDragon · 27/02/2014 00:27

Reading and understanding the books is key. I've been on SW in the past and have then become complacent and therefore put weight back on.
My breakfasts tend to be fruit and mullerlight with either coffee or diet coke. Lunch tends to be a mugshot, fruit and a freddo (5syns) and either a coffee or diet coke/sprite zero/7 up zero. Dinner tends to be meat and veg cooked in my microwave pressure cooker. Milk for coffees is measured out healthy extra A but I struggle for healthy extra B as I'm yeast, wheat and gluten intolerant and I can't stand the texture of cereal bars (including the hifi bars)

Can I join? I joined SW last week, first weigh in tomorrow. I want to lose 4stone following pregnancy post natal cake
Is everyone doing extra easy? When's weigh day for everyone?

Report
heronsfly · 27/02/2014 12:49

Ive started on extra easy but might change once I have really worked it all out, my weigh in day is Wednesday Grin

Hi. I've just had my third weigh in (Wednesday) - I put a pound on last week but lost 1.5lb in my first week and 7 in my second so overall very good but very inconsistent! And I'm not sure why, my diet has been pretty much the same each week.

I don't often eat my syns and wonder if I should eat more.

I need ideas for savoury snacks - I get bored of always snacking on fruit and/or yogurt.

I'm currently 14 st 10 (BMI 33) and my ultimate aim is close to 11st but I'll be very happy if/when I get to 13st

I lost 2.5lb this week!
I tend to mix and match the plans depending what I'm doing each day!
Am packing to go away for the weekend atm, it's my birthday tomorrow and me and DP are going away for a weekend in a spa hotel. Will post some savoury snack ideas when I get chance though

Can I join too please? I'll be joining my local class on Monday, my first time at SW so I have no idea what it's all about! I did WW before ProPoints, but lost track when it changed so I fell off the wagon and put on 1.5 of the 2 stone I'd lost Hmm

Hoping to lose 3 stone on SW Smile just hope it's easier to follow than WW!

Happy Birthday little dragon, hope you have a good weekend Grin
I have tried WW too edsotherwoman and was unsuccessful really, I lost weight really quickly but craved food and soon put it all back on again .
I think SW is going to suit me better because there are loads of free foods that you can eat all day long and I am doing just that its early days for me though and I still need to read the books properly.

Week 1 weigh in = -6lb!! Whoop whoop. I want to lose another 2lb this week to take me down into the next stone. We had the pulled pork for dinner last night, I did it in the slow cooker, it was amazing. I had it with homemade coleslaw & wedges, I really recommend it.

Just come back to check this thread - wasn't expecting so many replies!

Good luck to everyone just starting and well done to everyone who has had losses this week! Thanks

So I started on Tuesday, Monday being joining day and I think I've done pretty well so far. Eaten lots of free foods and not gone beyond 10 syns a day at all so I'm hopeful for a loss this week.

Has anyone discovered a new food or recipe which is low in syns? What is everyone snacking on?

I have just discovered syn free crisps Grin I'm so happy - crisps are my downfall and knowing I can make some that are syn free will help keep me on track.

Syn free crisps? This is something I need to know about! How do you make them?

Report

isis the pulled pork sounds amazing - where's the recipe?

I've been doing quite a lot of SW chips and coleslaw. Did a big shop today and stocked up on FF yogurt, fromage frais etc plus tonnes of fruit.

Does anyone use quark and got any good recipes?

BBQ pulled pork

1.5-2kg pork shoulder, all fat removed
5 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp mustard powder
500g passata
3 tbsp balsamic vinegar
2 cloves of garlic, crushed
3 tbsp sweetener
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Tip: Chef's tip: Serve with homemade coleslaw, Slimming World-style sweet potato chips in 60g wholemeal rolls.
Method

In a small bowl, mix passata, Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar, mustard powder, garlic, sweetener and seasoning. Transfer to a small pan and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.
Meanwhile, trim and remove all visible fat from the pork and sear all sides in a hot frying pan sprayed with low calorie cooking spray. Transfer to a roasting tin lined with aluminium foil and pour the sauce over the pork making sure all the meat is covered. Cover with the foil and bake on 160°C/140°C Fan for 4-5 hours.
Remove the pork from the oven and place on a cutting board. Allow the meat to cool for approximately 15 minutes, then shred into bite-sized pieces using two forks.

Syn free crisps:

Spray a dinner plate with fry light.

Peel a potato. Cut it in half.

Shave slices of with a potato peeler.

Lay them on the plate in a single layer.

Spay potatoes with fry light.

Microwave for 3-5 minutes, until they start getting a little brown in the middle.

Take them off the plate and put them on kitchen towel to cool.

Sprinkle with salt or whatever else takes your fancy!
