dd is 19 months old and usually sleeps at lunchtime for an hour and half in her buggy in the garden...
for the past few days she's had a cold/cough and last night she was up half the night crying - tried everything, even nightime benolyn - didn't work - had her in with me in the end just to get some rest.
Yesterday she only slept for 20 mins in her buggy then woke coughing and would not go back to sleep. So last night she had very little sleep, hardly any daytime sleep yesterday. Put her in her buggy at lunchtime today - she seemed absolutely knackered...... She didn't sleep - just cried... I left her for an hour, gave her some calpol - and bought her in after an hour as I couldn't stand the crying anymore...

I am desperate for her to sleep - she seems so tired and needs the sleep for her body to repair from the cold/cough... What should I do???? I am dreading tonight in case it's the same as last night! I took her to the docs this morning but they checked her and said she's okay, ie. it's just a virus no infection or anything... I can't understand why she won't sleep!! Sorry for waffling on!

have u tried Medised? my ds (13m) has just got over a cold and i was recommended some of this stuff. It is great for colds, teething, coughs and fevers and also makes the child slightly drowsy, promising a good nights sleep. My ds slept the best he ever has while having this!

Have you tried Vicks?? DS had a cold/cough and was teething, his sleep was all over the place, rubbed vicks on his chest and back and he slept, well, like a baby!

have tried medised - in fact she did have some first thing when she went to bed - but it didn't work so I tried Benelyn instead (not at the same time!!!)
She's still not slept today and is almost dead on her feet. Went to Tescos to get a few bits and on the way home dd1 (who is 3.5 and never sleeps during the day) fell asleep and dd2 who should have slept stayed awake!!!! How annoying!!!!!!!!!!

Oh dear... thing is buy now i bet she is way OVER tired

I agree go get some medised it really IS good Its essentially paracetamol and antihistamine (which makes them drowsy) you can also give DAY cough medicine alongside it (NOT nighttime!)

good luck!

would she sleep if you pushed the buggy around or took her for a drive?

one of the mums in our group had something similiar - coughing, grizzly and not sleeping. Turns out her DS had an ear infection, but he wasn't doing any of the classic things like tugging on his ears.

Oops, just read you've been to the docs.

Maybe she's got teeth coming? My DS goes right off his food and sleep when teeth are lurking.

thanks everyone. Last night was a bit better, she eventually settled to sleep after a few hours of crying... She was dosed up with Calpol but tonight I might try medised. I am praying that she will have a daytime nap today too.... she so needs to catch up and she looks exhausted!
I can't really take her out in the buggy for a long walk as I'll have dd1 with me and she won't walk very far. Yesterday I did try a drive in the afternoon and the eldest one fell asleep and she never sleeps in the day!!!! dd2 didn't!!!!
