Still having seep problems with 20 month old... help

I have always had problems with dd and sleeping. She was bf and always bf back to sleep until she was 14months old, when I completely stopped bf.

She sometimes sleeps through the night. But most of the time wakes up a few times for a drink of water.

If she goes to bed at a decent time like 7.30 or 8, then she will wake up a little while later as she finds she is in bed alone.

I have to cuddle her to gether to sleep. And she sleeps in my bed, always has. I just want her to go to bed at a decent time and sleep through untill the morning without waking. Not sure if I will ever achieve this.

Things have improved alot from how they used to be with her waking up several times a night in tears, but still not perfect.

I cant even go out in the evening and leave her with a babysitter as I know she will wake up and be very upset and not settle back to sleep...

Hello newlysinglemummy. My DS (21 mo) has never slept through the night, I struggle to get him down before 8pm at night and he wakes at 5.30 pretty much on the dot every morning. I co-sleep and bf still at night so I am sure people would tell me this is where I am going 'wrong'. I don't feel like its going wrong - he's a happy, lively gorgeous little boy and this is just how it is for us. My nephew slept through from an early age. He's now 5 and my sister has to cuddle him to sleep and he wakes nearly every night to get into bed with her!

Try to find someone your daughter is comfortable with and make sure you have an evening out. I've been out to find my DS on my mums lap as he has woken and she couldn't settle him again - that's the worst that could happen and that's not so bad really... If you are tired and need a break then you need to have some time to yourself and it won't do your DD any harm if you leave her with someone she trusts for an evening.

Sorry this isn't much help, just wanted to let you know you weren't alone!

luvaduck - sorry have not been online for a few days.

When dd was 14months she wanted to bf all the time day and night as a comfort. She also had her blanky but used me for comfort.

It was too much hard work so I just stopped. I tried to cut out all day feeds completely, which sometimes worked and sometimes didn't. I couldn't get her to sleep without bf, even for naps, unless she went to sleep in the pram or car.

So one day I spent the day indorrs and didn't let her bf to sleep. I watched vidoes with her untill she finally fell asleep.

Then that night she still wanted to bf but had kinds got the idea from the day time.

I just refused to bf her, she pulled at my top, screamed and cried but I didn't give in. I sat up with her for hours and cuddled her and tried to comfort her but she was so frustrated and would not be comforted.

She finally went to sleep then woke up alot through out the night wanting to bf. She called it 'nee' when she wanted to bf and kept asking constantly.

I just didn't give in no matter how hard it was. The next night was still hard but easier. Anytime she woke up in the night, I walked with her and put on in the night garden to relax her.

Then the third or forth night she went to sleep and selpt through the night.

She was always so persistant and i thought that would never happen.

As I say I have still got problems with her waking up sometimes but it is so much better than when she was bf. Some nights she does not wake up at all.

I also started giving dd food just before bed so she is full, and I no that when she wakes she is not hungry.

Is your ds doing it for comfort?
