Would you mind telling me what your 8/9 month olds are doing nap-wise during the day

DS2 is all over the place atm with his naps. It's driving me crazy!

He was doing about 1 1/2 hours after the school run (so about 9am) and the same after lunch (so about 1pm). Now he's waking after about 1/2 hour in the morning and I just can't settle him down again even though he's obviously still tired.

He is teething but if I can tell he's uncomfortable then he has a bit of calpol before I put him down.

DD is 9 months. She has also been a bit all over the place and suddenly started resisting naps last week. Is better again this week but usually has 1.5 hours in the morning about 2.5 - 3 hrs after she has first woken up. Then about half an hour to 45 mins in the afternoon. The teething could definitely be the problem, or maybe he needs to push the nap a bit later? Is he really tired at 9am? What time does he get up first thing?

DS is 9 months. He gets up between 7-8am.

He sleeps for 2-3 hours around lunchtime (goes down around 1pm) then up again until 8pm.

He rarely naps.. just one long sleep in the middle of the day!

He's teething too - but I find dentinox teething gel better and less likely to mess his sleeping patterns about.

DS wakes up at 7. Goes back to bed at 0930 or 1000 and naps for about 90 mins. Goes back to bed again at 3pm and naps for same amount of time. Goes to bed at 1930 and repeat....

DS is 8.5 months. For a long time he used to nap for 1.5 hrs in the morning starting roughly 9ish and then from 1-3 hrs in the afternoon starting around 2pm with an occastional short nap around 4pm. Lately he still has two naps most days, but they are shorter and sometimes only 45 mins long. He can definitely go longer before needing a sleep too, and so the morning one may not start until 11 and the afternoon one may start about 3. He gets up between 7 and 8 (most days I wake him gently at 7:30 if he isn't awake already so that we have some structure to our day.) I always wait for his signs of tiredness before putting him down and try, where possible, to plan walks in the pushchair around likely naptimes. We vary when we start the bath/bed routine but normally he's in his cot asleep about 7:30.

Gingerwench! (hello!!)
I am impressed that your DS may nap until 4pm and still go to sleep at 7:30.
If DS was still asleep at 4pm, I'd be expecting him up until well after 9pm!!!
haha

Thanks everybody.

I was wondering if his morning nap was a bit early but he wakes about 6.30am atm and does genuinely seem tired by 9am.

I think I'll try pushing it back a bit and see how he goes

DD (8.5 months) gets up at around 7am... Back down at around 9am... sleeps for anything between 45 minutes - 1.5 hours... then back down for a nap around 1pm for about an hour then bed time at 6.30pm... At the moment she is resisting her afternoon nap so some days goes from 11am til 6pm without sleeping... Obviously this makes me wonder if she's trying to reduce to 1 nap a day but everything I've read says they need 2 naps until they're a year old.

Wondering if 8/9 months is a time when they have a tendency to resist naps. My 9 month old DS has been a brilliant napper but a couple of weeks ago he would scream if i put him in his cot so had to start giving him a bottle of milk to drink in his cot to help him get to sleep. he's a bit better now but i've found that i need to limit his morning nap to less than an hour if i want him to be able to go to sleep in the afternoon. i wonder if this is because they are getting less sleepy as they get older and find it a bit harder to zonk out at nap time?

Incidentally DS gets up around 7am, nap starts around 9.30am for 45 mins. Back in to bed at about 1.30 for an hour and a half and then in bed for the night at around 6.30/7pm.
