Sleep

Where to nap during the day..

I hope I can do this without being too long winded, but I need some advice/tips on where DD can nap during the day.

DD is 15 weeks old, and has been napping in her moses basket downstairs with us since birth. She is only about a week away from completely outgrowing it now, and I was wondering where I could put her down in the daytime. She sleeps in her cot in our room at night, but whenever I take her up in the day, she screams blue murder and won't settle, then gets overtired and cries even more. I did consider a sling, but DH is completely against it after hearing some horror stories from a family member about the safety of them (I know they are safe, but try convincing him...)

Money is going to be a bit tight from now, as I am going on to half pay, so can't afford anything big.

What can I do before DD busts right out of the basket?! She has fallen asleep a few times in her bouncer, but a friend of mine said that that was unsafe. I know that these daytime naps will get less frequent, but what to do in the meantime?

I used to put mine in the pram outside as then I didn't have to tiptoe around for fear of waking them.

TBH I would try the cot again and try and soothe her in the cot - patting/stroking etc.

If you can get one locally from ebay I'd recommend using a travel cot because then when you go away they are used to it! With my youngest she had all her day time naps in the travel cot and it worked out fabby!

Do you have a pram? Mine always slept in the pram in the living room when they were small. If your pram's not too big it will fit where your moses basket was. And the weather will be getting nicer soon so she'll be able to sleep outside in her pram in afew weeks.

Pram (handy because you can rock it and put it outside) or cot.

Have you tried putting her moses basket inside the cot to get her used to being in that room but in the comfort of her familiar moses basket. Obviously you haven't got long left to try it

Thanks! Some great ideas. We have the Hauck Infinity set and the pram attachment is almost too small! Although she does love the stroller when it's reclined back. I never thought of that! Good point about the outdoor sleeping but where I live, our back and front gardens are facing busy carparks - Carparks not just used for cars, but motorbikes, scooters, teenagers congregating etc.

Travel cot. Never thought of that either. goes off to ebay for a sneaky look

Defintely go with the moses basket inside the cot - gets them used to a life behind bars ;-)

Seriously though DD had to sleep in her moses basket for at least the first 12 weeks or so as I had SPD and was in a wheelchair so couldn't take her up and down stairs. It's amazing how flexible a baby will be if they have to.

Once they get used to the view from the cot i think it's easier. I also used to pop her in the pram wrapped up looking out the window by the back door. Don't be afraid of noise either, if they're tired they will sleep anywhere..so take her for a bit of fresh air to knock her out first ;-)

Good luck x
